TM is looking into the possiblity of sitting out a year while staying in school (Paying his own way) and returning to the team next year. Hasn't be approved as an option for him yet.
Football is LSU's cash cow. The AD recently made its largest financial contribution to the academic operational side ever. The only way Les gets overruled by university brass is if he wanted to hide a serious NCAA violation, and that would contradict the full disclosure stance that Les and the AD have practiced for many years now. This was ultimately Les' decision.
Hmm, if that happened how would that affect his eligibility since he wouldn't be on scholarship this year?
That would be a positive indication that TM has learned something from this. His future as a member of society is more important that his future with any football team. I hope for the best and that he learns about handleing life in a positive way.
by "school rule" I think Miles means LSU AD rules that apply to scholarship athletes being able to keep their scholarship, not school rules that apply to general students being able to stay in school at LSU for ex this is from CNN/Sports Illustrated: Athletic Director Joe Alleva said Mathieu, who was suspended for a game in 2011 after failing a drug test, violated an athletic department rule and had his scholarship revoked. ... Mathieu could stay at LSU and pay tuition, but Alleva said that was unrealistic. "He's not going to stay in school," he said.
All RP did in 2008 was get kicked off the team, when he was to be the starting QB. He was redshirted in '06 and the back-up QB to Flynn in '07. He didn't necessarily have time to be the man, like TM, but he was incredibly important to our '08 team. But Miles kicked him off, too. The similarities are certainly there.
