This mock draft has Tyson Jackson going in the first round pick #15 to Houston. How did that change so fast? He must have interviewed really really well.... http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/don_banks/02/25/mock2/index.html
He's been a projected mid-late first rounder for long time now. A lot of people have been seeing him go to the Jets at 17. I don't think the combine changed much; from what I've been hearing, he has been just confirming people's projections thus far.
He has been solid at the combine and during interviews. Also you have to factor in the need for DEs in the NFL this year and the supply. Needs up and supply a little thin compared to the last 2 years.
Jackson would be an Ideal Fit as a 5 Tech in the 3-4 because he plays the run so well which would allow the outside backer in the 3-4 to contain the outside. Also he would be solid as a 4-3 LE or strongside end which primarily focuses on stuffing the run first as the RE or Weakside is responsible for the pass rush. Don't get me wrong the LE is suppose to apply pass rush, but the main ability should be run stuffing.
Unless coach's film shows something other than normal film, I'm perplexed how he's not labelled as a classic underachiever. Not exactly 1st round material. But, there are plenty of pundits using last year's draft board in assembling this year's board, apparently.
Film is just a tiny fraction of the process. He is doing many things in his favor right now like showing up in great shape, interviewing well, and showing his potential. He is a 1st rounder unless something goes wrong on Pro Day.
