WTF? To me it just shows the true stripes of the UN and how utterly useless they really are. How in the hell do you elect a country (without a vote) to a commission on women's rights that by law stones women and lashes them for being prudish, I mean not modest?

Any organization with that many voting members cannot agree on anything and so are ruled by byzantine rules and bureaucracies. The entire UN didn't actually "elect" Iran. Iran got on this commission apparently because Asia gets two seats and only two Asian countries applied for it.

that sums it up pretty well.
i dont know. saudi and pakistan are horrendous in their treatment of women, but i think we just dont hear as much about iran in the way they treat women. what reading i have done on the subject, it is getting worse in regards to the treatment and rights of women.

i have a book, that i cant find right now and cant remember the name, that explores the treatment of women in the different middle eastern countries. iran is becoming more and more hard line in their treatment of women, much the same as saudi arabia.

It is harder to politicize an issue when all the relevant facts are at the top.
