Ohio State advanced to the Ultimate National Title Final Four, but it took a controversial penalty and a 48-yard Josh Huston field goal to do it.

Down 16-14 with 1:39 to play and on its own seven, Ohio State appeared to have killed its chances before the final drive got started as QB Troy Smith's pass was picked off by LSU LB Ali Highsmith for a touchdown, but the play was called back on a pass interference call on the other side of the field when Buckeye WR Ted Ginn Jr. tripped and fell down. Replays showed he wasn't touched, but the flag was thrown and the call was irreversible by replay.

"It happened right in front of us. We saw the whole thing," said LSU head coach Les Miles. "It was a horrible, horrible call, but we still had plenty of chances to stop them and didn't. It's just a shame it all had to end for us like this. That call really took the wind out of our sails. We couldn't get the momentum back."

For the record, CFN crowned LSU it's "ultimate national champ" back in 2003.

Err...just dawned on me that knowing and remembering this makes me look like the biggest loser in all of Creation. :wink:
