A friend of mine has a son who is studying for a masters in film at USC. He didn't realize he was stepping on a sore point when he called and offered me one of the t-shirts they're selling out there, proclaiming their third consecutive national championship. I told him it made me sick. I can't believe these jerks. Oh wait a minute--that's where OJ went. I guess I should have known.:crystal:
Well, if the AP Poll finishes with them as #1, then technically they're right. They just won't be able to say they won the BCS Championship three times in a row. Kinda like 'Bama's 56 Nat'l Titles in Football or Auburn's last year. If you go to ncaa.org, it says otherwise for USC. Email him that link...
I polled patrons at Freds for the last three years and they all said LSU was #1. I want a T-shirt to that effect. The Pac-10 bought into the Bowl Championship Series in 1998 stating that the BCS winner would be the declared number one team. But I guess they forgot .... oh that's right, they can change the rules and not look at the obvious... O.J. etc. - never mind But do they have the crystal football on their mantle?
I checked out this link, and it is rather hilarious. It looks like USC can actually claim 4 national titles in a row if the Matthews ranking has them first at the end of this season. Also, in 1996, it looks like Florida was not the consensus national champ. Florida State, who Florida beat like 50 something to 7 in the "National Championship Game" actually finished first in one of the final rankings. All of these rankings are a complete joke!
Am I the only one who could care less if USC is claiming a 3-peat? It really doesn't bother me at all.....let them claim it. We know who REALLY won it in 2003, So why whine about it.
It's just irritating! Just like the bias on ESPN. Does it make me love LSU less? Heck no, but it is so frikkin' irritating. It is just a media lovefest with USC. It is really sickening. They never, ever mention that USC did not win the BCS championship in 03. Why? Because then it doesn't make their threepeat story seem as solid. It is just frustrating when national media spins a story to make a point they want to make, or make a story bigger than it actually is. They are doing this with USC and the three-peat thing this year.
If LSU was ranked #1 AP and Coaches going into the bowls, didn't make it to the BCS champ. game, won their bowl game and was still ranked #1 AP after it was all said and done would you claim that to be a National Championship? Just putting it out there.....
