I heard him speak on TV today when it was announced he will coach the LSU Women's basketball team. His credentials seem great, but quite honesty I was not impressed with him. He was not a very good speaker, but then that is not the reason he was hired. I hope he does well at LSU.
Maybe so. I am just stating what my initial impression was. Of course first impressions are not always the best. I hope that is the case here. I know as a head coach his achievements have been more than credible. Hopefully this hire will solidify our recruiting this year. Dandy Don says he doubts if the women's basketball program will have a top 20 class. That is hard to believe considering what it has achieved in the last four years.
Nah, he just meant cause it was already posted but the thread is a little disguised. :thumb: http://www.tigerforums.com/showthread.php?t=52615
I just realized that the Tigers will not be losing any players this year. That must be the reason for the low rating for this year's recruiting class.
Given the talent level that is returning, we need a coach that is ready to step in and be a head coach "right now", and possibly win a championship. I think Van can do that, and I like the hire for a 4 year window. With the Comets, he managed a tough relationship between Cynthia Cooper and Sheryl Swoops (both great, both wanted the ball). It seemed to me that all the players respected him and liked playing for him. I think he will step in and be a better X and O coach than Pokey on day one. Face it, we were still training Pokey for the head coaching job. Kim Mulkey out coached her, IMO. I'll worry about year 5 when we get there.
