I voted for him but does anyone know when was the last defensive player to win the Heisman??? ...and has a DL EVER won the award??? Why do I wanna say Charles Woodson?? ...maybe???
He was the last pure defender to win it...I wanna say only 2 pure defenders have ever won it though I cant remember the other. Pretty sure it wasn't a DL though.
and the fact that Woodson played some on offense and returned kicks/punts also helped him... IMO, no defensive lineman will ever win this award.
Only one defensive player has won the award. Like it's been mentioned, it was the scoring ability that pushed him over the top in the receiver position and on special teams. Do you remember that acrobatic catch, one-handed, he made that year vs Michigan State? Ironically, since the two teams play each other today, it was the Ohio State game that sealed the deal for him...punt return for a TD, a couple of huge INT's that game and a few receptions.
*bump* come on guys, Dorsey deserves more than 6,000 votes. I wanna see Glenn in NYC on stage going :wave: when he wins the Heisman he deserves.
A few d-linemen from back in the day have won it. But it's been all RB's/QB's and a few WR's and Woodson since then.
