LSU's football winning percentage in the six years (1989-1994) of the Archer/Hallman eras prior to DiNardo's hiring was .378 .

    1995 Gerry DiNardo 7-4-1 4-3-1 Independence Bowl
    1996 Gerry DiNardo 10-2 6-2 Peach Bowl 12
    1997 Gerry DiNardo 9-3 6-2 Independence Bowl 13
    1998 Gerry DiNardo 4-7 2-5

LSU's football winning percentage in the first four years (1995-1998) of the DiNardo era was .638. DiNardo won 30 games in his first four seasons at LSU.

OSU's football winning percentage in the six years (1995-2000) of the Simmons Era prior to Miles' hiring was .441 .

The winning percentages of the five coaches prior to Miles seem comparable to his. I don't see some coaching that no one had ever done at Oklahoma State, and wasn't Miles the offensive coordinator for a significant portion of the Simmons era that had a winning percentage of .441? If Miles has performed somekind of unheard of coaching performance, what can be said for DiNardo?

    Dave Smith 1972 .545
    Jim Stanley 1973-1978 .529
    Jimmy Johnson 1979-1983 .535
    Pat Jones 1984-1994 .508
    Bob Simmons 1995-2000 .441
    Les Miles 2001-Current .571

    2001 4-7
    2002 8-5
    2003 9-4
    2004 7-5

OSU's football winning percentage in the four years (2001-2004) of the Miles Era was .571. Miles won 28 games in his four seasons at OSU.

I am not saying that Miles will not do as well as DiNardo. I think Miles will do better, because LSU is stocked with talent. I am saying DiNardo inherited a worse team from the prior six years and did more in his first four years than Miles did in his four years (inheriting a team that was not as bad over its prior six years). This and the comparable winning percentages of the prior coaches shows that there does not appear to be anything extraordinary about Miles' results. If they are, why was DiNardo fired one season later when he did much more starting with less in his tenure. I supported the DiNardo firing. I do not support this hiring. I would have preferred an excellent NFL coordinator like Mike Nolan, and I think we could have gotten one or Del Rio (but it appears we couldn't have gotten him).

Awww heck.... While we are tossing out stats, here are some silly ones:

Dinardo is responsible for 9% of LSU's winning seasons form 1960 to current.

Miles is responsible for 18% of Oklahoma State's winning seasons from 1960 to current.

Last year OSU ranked 14th in one poll with thier recruiting. Does any one have data that shows what type of classes the guy has brought in in previous years.

The poll also had LSU ranked #1.

I don't see what has been so great about the recruiting job that Miles has done with his 7-5 team. In 2004, his class was rated 32nd and ours was rated 2nd by Rivals. In 2003, his class was rated 15th and ours was rated 1st. This does not blow me away. It is pretty good but not surprising for OSU.

I don't see any OSU commits this year (and there are many) that I would want Miles to offer for LSU other than Willie Williams.

It does not blow you away that he now has a top 15 recruiting class when they had 1 winning season in 12 years before he got there? It does not blow you away that he pulls these type of recruits while playing second fiddle to OU, Texas, A&M , Texas Tech and even Nebraska?? Wow so he can do top 15 in a school that is traditionally a bottom feeder but he won't be able to recruit at the only major state insitution in the state with the best high school talent in the country?

Also, if you want to look at numbers, I think my signature from another thread is telling as well.

I can't imagine that anyone would consider Miles accomplishments at a college like Oklahoma State to be example of what he could do at a school like LSU. The main reason Nick left Michigan State was to come to a school where he could win a National Championship.

Louisiana produces many more Division I and NFL players than Oklahoma. LSU is the only Div I school in the state. LSU has a bigger fan base, better facilities, a bigger stadium, and lots more money. Miles has much more headroom here.

    Welcome back to Mediocrity, LSU

This is truly a disaster for LSU FB

    We hire this clown ..

LSU WILL NEVER SEE ANOTHER NEW YEAR'S BCS BOWL GAME

CHISEL THAT IN THE ALMIGHTY'S FINEST GRANITE ... MARK MY WORDS

On a positive note ... Shreveport is very nice and helps with the local recruiting when LSU gets invited there
