Being ex-military, I still have a lot of GA fans as close friends.
One of this guys claims David Pollock is the second coming of "Christ"
(no religious hard feelings meant). He is good but not that good.
So being the LSU fan I am, I dropped $100 that Webster will go higher
than Pollock in the 2005 draft buying major injury by either player.

Do I need to put $100 aside to payout or I'm I safe?
    Any Help?

Apples and oranges. It's going to depend on what the teams need. If both players played the same position, then the bet would make sense.

    IMHO......

I would have to believe that a 6 foot something 19something cornerback with 14+ picks in 3 years and 50+ passes defenced will go higher than David Pollack.

Just consider that most people regard David Pollack as an end that gets by on his effort, and cosider that Webster has only played his position for ~2 years and you get an "upside" argument.

    NFL loves "upside"

Spears and Webster should both go before Pollak IMO. He's lost weight and he's now down under 270. He's not fast enough to be a speed rusher like Sweeney or Kearse, and at 270 he's gonna have a hard time holding the point against the run when a 330 pound tackle leans on him. He's a great college player and I would certainly take him if I was an NFL team, but he's not the talent that Webster is IMO. I think your money's safe.

Well, that's an unfair bet because rarely does the best overall player go first in the draft; where a guy is drafted oftentimes has to do with the needs of the teams drafting in those top 10-15 spots (or teams that trade up into those spots).

From the 2004 draft class, many thought that either Robert Gallery or Kellen Winslow, Jr. were the top two "best" in the class, and neither went #1.

All that being said, both DE and CB are high-profile positions for high first round picks, but alot also depends on the peceived "depth" at each respective position. In other words, if CB is determined to be a "deep" position in the 2005 draft, teams may be more inclined to go another way with a top 10 pick, assuming a very good corner will still be on the board at the top of the second round. If Pollack is consdiered one of the top DE prospects and it's a shallow DE draft, he could go higher than he would if there was some depth there.

Anyways, I suspect that Webster gets the edge here because he's (a) clearly the best corner in the draft next season and (b) demonstrably good enough at that position to warrant a high pick.

FWIW, Mel Kiper's 2005 "Big Board" of just college seniors has Webster over Pollack at this time.

Webster and Spears will both go ahead of Pollack, I think. Pollack is good, but not great. Whitworth and Reed handled him easily last year, in both games.

Now, I love Webster, but with Antrel Rolle in next years draft as well, I wouldn't say clearly the best corner in the draft. They're neck and neck IMO. But I would say that they are haed and shoulders better than anyone else, and they are much better than anyone who was in this year's draft.

I think you're going to see LSU, over the next couple of years, become the "go-to" school for defensive players coming out, ESPECIALLY secondary. It's pretty much no secret that Saban prepares these kids for the pro game like no other. They guy basically runs an NFL Dee at the college level. As an NFL coach, you have to appreciate the fact that not only are these kids coming out supreme athletes, but they're well versed on a complex, man-oriented, attacking defense. The onslaught of LSU D alums into the NFL truly begins next year and isn't going to stop any time soon.

I think we will have 3 first round picks in the draft this year. Webster, Spears, and Wilkerson. A couple of others might be high picks as well but maybe not 1st round. Who else is on the bubble?

Spend the 100 bucks. Pollack will still be there when the 2nd round starts.
