Here are the standings for Week 3: Unoffical BCS Standings This is with 1 human (Coaches) and 4 computer (Billingsley, Colley Matrix, Kenneth Massey, & Sagarin) polls reporting. Next Sunday the first Harris Interactive Poll will be released, and we'll start to get a much better feel for what the real standings will look like.
Colley still has us pretty low, but they do have Florida #1 in their poll, so once LSU beats Florida, we will be near the top in that poll as well. Sagarin and Massey have us #1 and #2, respectively. That's great. Billingsley is #8, but wins over Tennessee and Florida bump us up right near the top of that one as well. LSU wins out, we stand the chance of being #1 over USC in a couple of the polls (Sagarin/Massey) and maybe 3 of them That will put us into the BCS championship game, even with a #3 ranking in both human polls
The reason we are so low in Colley is simply because we only have one game as opposed to the 2 or 3 that every team ahead of us has played. If you notice, we have the highest Strength of Schedule of any undefeated team in that poll. Tennessee's loss will dampen that a bit, but they will still be seen as a quality opponent when it's all said and done. If LSU beats Tennessee, I expect to see 'em sitting at No. 3 next week. That's because I believe that the Harris Poll will shake out much like the Coaches Poll. Just some quick calculations, when doubling the Coaches poll, the rankings come out to: 1. Texas 0.898 2. LSU 0.867 3. USC 0.819 However, USC has terrible computer scores so far, and will only go up. USC will probably be sitting in the BCS No.1 spot as soon as next week.
If this happens, somewhere out in Berkley Jeff Tedford will see the anguished look on Mack "We wuz robbed" Brown's face, nod silently and smile.
These are "way too early" standings and do not mean squat right now. Kind of useless but I guess some are interested in seeing them. Everyting about those computer standings will change a lot when we get into the middle of the schedules with the Harris Poll, SOS and everything else taken into consideration.
Of course it's way too early. Personally, I think that's what so fun about it. It's really fun to watch where teams start and how the positions change throughout the year. I'm doing this for myself, and as a service for those like me who thinks it's never too early to watch things unfold. Yes, things will change a lot when the Harris poll gets released next week, but we'll have to wait and see.
i LOVE it. lets just hope he brings some heat after UT this week and we can stop making comparisons. after all the pressure he hears, I see vaugn wroten and spadoni combining for 6 sacks of the reject clausen and wonder-boy ainge.
