I was just wondering what happened to Patrick Fisher? i know that ever since he punted a bad punt against Oregon State, Jackson has been doing the punting. Jackson has been punting well, but it seems like Fisher should be given another chance, he only goofed up once. Why are we going to keep a punter if werent going to use him. Also, maybe since Jackson has been having to punt it has affected his regular kicking game. I know that Gaudet was the one that missed the extra point against Auburn, but in the prior two games Jackson has missed extra points and field goals too.
That's a good point. I forgot about Fisher. You're right, that doesn't seem right that he made one bad punt in muddy conditions, and he doesn't get another chance. Who knows what's his deal? ...only Saban.
Its feast or famine with Fisher. He's either kicking a 55 yard punt or hes shanking a 20 yarder. Jackson gives us more consistancy with our punting.
The kicking game has been crazy for a bunch of teams this year. I don't remember a season when so many kickers have missed this many extra points. I don't know if handling punting and kicking is too much for Jackson, I know I rather have one guy for each thoguh. I assume if Fisher is performing well in practice, then he will get another shot. I think right now it is all about consistency like DD posted. Whoever is more consistent will play.
But wasn't Fisher supposed to be one of the highly ranking punters when he was a Sr? I mean, I would HOPE he was THAT reguarded seeing as he came all the way from Maryland! ....I hope he gets his act together soon. We could use some special teams consistancy.
Hats off to Jackson for punting as best he can - Jackson is a placekicker and he had no intentions of punting for LSU. The team needed someone to step up and embrace the challenge and he has gotten the job done pretty well for a placekicker IMO...
Fisher is getting distance, but poor hang time. His punts can be returned. Also he shanks them too often. He hit a 12-yard punt vs. Oregon State. During the spring game he actually kicked one straight up and it came down BEHIND him. never seen anything like it. Fisher ain't ready yet.
Wow. I've never heard that before, and I can promise you that I've never seen anything like that. If that is the case, then Fisher needs plenty of work to be a starting punter. I can't even imagine the nightmares Saban has of Fisher kicking the ball backwards on a punt. Jackson punted the ball well for the AU game, now if we can get him to be more consistent on his extra pts and FGs, we could be in business.
