It seems like the last 5 years or so of college & pro football have created some phenominal parity between the teams.

But, it is as if this "parity" has led to greater officiating gaffes that are marring the competative spirit and the outcomes of the games.

I mean, the 'tuck' rule, the interference call against Miami, the two SEC calls this weekend, etc. etc.

The frequent and confusing rule changes don't help the matter, either.

Because the games are closer and teams are better matched, the stripes are now a bigger part of the outcome now than ever before...

...and some refs seem to revel in their new-found power...

...which in my opinion really SUCKS...

Is it parity that has created this monster, or do the refs of today just plain suck?

Or has replay spawned a whole new expectation that refs might not ever be able to live up to?

    ...what say you?

It seems to me that the speed of the game is passing these refs by. Things seem to happen so fast on the field that the refs get caught being fans and are just watching the play. Then the light bulb comes on, remember they are being paid to do something and throw a flag.

Take the PAT call, granted it was the correct call but look at the timing and how it effected the game. They have no consistency.

But nobody takes the cake quite like SEC officials if you ask me we have way to many homegrown boys out there. 98% of us are from the south and growing up we had our favorite teams, mine was Auburn (just a stage). That has to have an effect on some level with these guys.

What exactly was the rule that caused them to have a second chance to kick the PAT?

If you jump you can't land on the opposing team's player?

Some of these rules are in place to "protect people". This is football it is a sport designed for head on collisions. I am for safety but when it waters down the play and in some cases effects the outcome.

Not trying to beat the dead horse but what effect did Prude have on the outcome of the PAT by landing on the player?

Its a stupid rule. Jumping to try to block a kick is part of the game. If you jump up you have to land somewhere.

Yes, clearly he should have altered time and space and somehow manage to float above the air and the play before both teams were able to safely return to their sidelines. Then he was to gently lower himself to the ground.

We need David Copperfield as a special teams coach.
