LOL, I will be happy as long as LSU makes a bowl game, especially a January Bowl game but will settle for December every year
Saban is safe for however long he chooses to stay. His successor is the one that will suffer the wrath of increased expectations.
Saban's successor will suffer the same fate as, uh, uh, you know, the guy who followed Bear Bryant. And uh, whatever the guy's name is who followed John Wooden. Maybe not. Two examples of coaches being successful following a legend come to mind. Joe B. Hall followed Adolph (the Baron of the Bluegrass) at Kentucky and won the 1978 national championship and Tom Osborne followed Bob Devaney at Nebraska and became a legend in his own right.
If Nick takes this team to an 11-2 record with a freshman QB starting he'd be a hero. More likely scenario is a 9-4 record and winning the SEC....again! New Years Day bowl like the Cotton. 2005 we will be 13-0 and another NC....!
While Joe B. was successful he retired right after winning that NC due to the immense pressure of following Rupp, the NC season was the least enjoyable of his coaching career. Bartow follwed Wooden and quit after leading UCLA to a final four due to the pressure. Osborne's record speaks for itself but he was on ther hot seat for several years and the stress was starting to get to him before he finally one the NC even though he had great seasons up to that point. No one wants to follow a true legend but there is always one guy that will take the job believing that he is the one that can win just like the other coach and make believers of the fan base. Most fail. Saban will pretty much always be on easy street as long as he is a Tiger becuase he will never let the program slip back into mediocrity as he is a tremendous leader of an entire program, recruiting, character judgement and building, talent evaluation, schemes, Assisstant Coach hires, etc. He will have an average season from time to time in my estimation just from the luck of the bouncing ball, every program goes through that every now and then, but we will not fall back into losing seasons.
