I believe Terry means that the fifth loss to Auburn is not the reason for Shula's demise. I'm hearing that there are other issues besides the won-loss record. Hopefully Terry will fill us in when the fog starts clearing and people go on the record.
Bama is in the same position in football as LSU was in basketball a few years ago. I don't think Shula is a bad coach he has a depth/talent problem. IMO, Wilson is one of the best QBs in the conference. He needs a running game to take some of the pressure off.
That implies that I really give a damn about the inner workings at Bama athletics. I do not. I posted because it struck me that you were getting a little too high and mighty about the subject.
I realize that, but the "Thumb" reference indicates that it remains firmly lodged in his crimson craw.
I believe the overwhelming majority of knowledgable CFB fans understand that already. The loss to Miss State was far more damaging than the 5-straight to Auburn, IMO, but the real issue Shula is facing is an abysmal 2-16 record against his primary conference opponents. Unfortunately, removing Shula won't likely cure Bama's real problem. Shula is simply the yes-man that will pay the price for the continuing fiasco that is Mal Moore and the REC.
You are close, but not in the ballpark. If you think it's Moore, you are looking in the wrong direction...Moore never wanted Shula, to this day doesn't, and it's the REC that makes most Auburn fans upset. They control this program, granted, but it's the "gang of '61" making the calls right now...
It's Juwan Simpson running his mouth over the state's media outlets this summer and fall, saying he "deserved an ice cream cone" instead of punishment for his drug related arrest earlier in the offseason. It's Joe Kines getting fed up with the D.J. Hall sitaution to the point that he will not return if Shula is still at the helm. It's the back-up QB quitting at midseason due to either broken promises or uneven discipline. This is Alabama football.
