I don't know why everybody says that this thing has got to end quickly so that we can find a new coach. Why do we need to rush? Wouldn't it be better to wait until after the NCAA and NFL seasons are over so that we can conduct a nation wide search for a new coach and a new staff? Some of you are saying that we need a resolution before the bowl game so that recruiting won't be hurt. Signing day is in February! We will have plenty of time to find a new coach and staff after the NCAA bowl games and the NFL regular season is over. PS Don't tell me "but Coach Saban isn't gone yet", because he is gone. Anybody who thinks otherwise is deluding themselves. The Dolphins must go through the process, and that's the ONLY reason why the final decision has yet to be made public.
I think that everyone wants to get it done quickly because signing day is in the first week of Feb if i am not mistaken. this gives minimum time to make up ground on potential lost recruits from the change, assuming saban leaves. the quicker whatever happens gets settled the quicker lsu football can get back on track and get ready for next season.
Recruits, Recruits, Recruits for 1 thing... Do you think the recruits are going to wait around to the last minute to see what Nick is going to do? We could lose some valuable recruits if he decides to leave and that gives a new coach and staff NO opportunity to try and salvage a class. I don't think any high school, college and pro team, fans, schools or message boards should have to endure this year after year not to mention for a few months? Our team will be really focused for our bowl game then.
Although Coach Saban will not go I kind of wish he would. All of this hoopla is just too much of a distraction. The damage has been done in my opinion. I respect and admire him for what he has done here but it is now time to either sh*t or get off the pot. All of this monkey motion is a bunch of BS and I'm growing to dislike what he is doing more and more. I'm sure he is wanting to get the most out of what should be an offer by now but has to wait to see how this "interview" process unfolds. He already knows what he would be getting in Miami and I secretly hope, now, that he would just go ahead and accept it. I'm no longer worried whether he goes or not. I assumed he had more integrity than he is showing now but I guess I was wrong. What ever the decision I'll be happy. I'm a Tiger fan...not just a Nick fan...but I am slowly beginning to lose my enthusiasm for the latter.
I have no idea what Saban will do, but I hope he sticks around just to prove to fans who feel like you do that they are dead wrong about all this being a distraction. Someone said in another thread (Tirk maybe?) that should Saban stay he'll probably be around a few more years till his daughter graduates high school, and I agree with that logic. Saban does care about his family and this is the year to consider a move. I understand the emotions of fans having to deal with this, but I think too many are going overboard. I can live with this ordeal if it means winning championships. Sure, I would love to have a Saban type coach spend 20 years at LSU, but that's just not realistic in today's coaching profession. The only thing I hope for is a quick resolution ... I think we will all know before Christmas.
Deep down I still believe NS is up-front with the whole saga. I believe he is letting this out now as he is truly interested in the Miami job, and give LSU some time to recruit a new coach and salvage the recruiting season (not that is has not been affected or damaged). Otherwise , he could have kept mum until February! Of course, the other take is that he had no choice but to let this out, since for a man of his profile, it would be hard to cover up any of his contacts with Miami, and any internal leak of information;and the whole thing would continually come up like flies as any pre-Bowl press conferences.I hope he is still undecided and weighing out the pros and cons before he hopefully makes the announcement before Christmas. I believe he is having a tough time with the decision (family vs person aspirations). ________ Child Avandia
I was venting a little last night because I just want to get this over with. I have no doubt whoever or whatever happens we won't lose too much in the way of recruiting. I mean we hired Saban in December so whatever happens we still have time to move on what we have. I know his decision weighs on him and how it affects his family. I'm not saying I know personally what he feels but I do know, from the contacts I've had during the season, that his family DOES mean a great deal to him and will influence his choice. His family is happy here and he knows that it will not be easy uprooting them again. I've been saying all along that he will not leave. I just wish he would make it official.
I won't say, "but Saban isn't gone yet", but I don't think you realize how fine of a line it is between having a great recruiting class and having an average reccruting class. Yes, signing day is in February--but that IS also ONLY a little over a month away. If we wait, like you suggest, till after the bowl game to conduct a nation-wide search, then that means our new coach has but 2-3 weeks to convience recruits who are "on the fence"? Sorry, but I disagree and I don't feel that we'd be better off. High school players want to know who their coach will be--and in many cases, it's their positional coaches that have their trust the most, or is the reason why they signed in the first place. Even if we have a head coach before signing day, following a detailed search, more than likely, his staff won't be complete...
