All Miles said was it was their plan to get after Cutler, which he is quoted as saying. The writer of the article is speaking for himself there. It is fact we blitzed less than we did vs. Tennessee, I went back and counted each play in both games, compared with how many plays each team ran.

The scheme is adjusted, we're talking about how aggressive the defense was. We blitzed less vs. Vandy than we did vs. Tenn. We blitzed more in the 2nd half of Tenn than we did in the 1st half. Anyone with a tivo can see that.

Anyone who wishes to spend the time to count can confirm it.

We blitzed 33% of plays in 1st half vs. Tenn.
We blitzed 46% of plays in 2nd half vs. Tenn.

We blitzed 36% of time in 1st half vs. Vandy.
We blitzed 35% of time in 2nd half vs. Vandy.

We blitzed 39% of snaps vs. Tenn.
We blizted 35% of snaps vs. Vandy.

The pressure we had on the QB all night was the difference. It completely shut down their offense. Give credit to the D line and for the blitz packages. They did a pretty good job of disguising the blitzes until the last second (that was an improvement IMO).

We did have one missed assignment on a pass overthrown over the middle in the third quarter. The receiver was running down the seam and there was no one close. As crazy as it sounds, I'm happy to only see one instance of that. At this point, I'll take it.

Blitzing will be effective with this ball club because even when teams pick up the blitzer, our Dline can almost always beat the other guy one on one.

I do still think there are question marks in our secondary when we play zone. Overall, I think it's reasonable to have hope that Pelini will actually become a solid DC here.

I have changed my opinion of our DC for the better because he let our players play against Vandy. The soft zone coverages seem to be gone and hopefully for good. I watched Georgia completely dismantle The Rick and his Vols and when things were going well for them, they did not lay back - they put on more steam! New staff, I like them okay but not as much as I like our players. I'm happy if they just let them play. Make the team that beats us earn it - no more gifts like the TN game please.

    Nice variety of blitz calls.

Solid conclusion, also Prude was beaten twice that I saw...and recovered because of the DL pressure forcing a bad pass. I do not want him covering Chad Jackson personally, not sure how he'll be aligned.

That's nice, but did you keep track of the types of blitz ... did we send one, two or three? Was it the LBers, safety or CB? What kind of coverage were our DBs in behind the blitz ... zone or man?

I saw a lot of zone coverage behind those blitzes against UT. I didn't see many all out blitzes (sending more than one) against UT like I saw last night. I also saw our DBs jump the short routes on the blitzes last night.

I'm getting old, so maybe my eyes don't pick up on those things like they used to do. I saw much more man coverage the last two games, which is just as important as bringing pressure.

As long as he keeps listening to the fans and doesn't go back to that weak a$$ soft zone prevent defense that he started out with he should be ok. Has he been reading the papers, because he has played a much different D than in the first two games? I was very happy with both the scheme and execution of the defense last night, looked like top notch SEC ball, really glad Pellini woke up early in the season. Now it's time to see if it carries over to games against better competition.
