This is from another board but shows the "Transfers" and players who "Quit" since Weiss got on the scene.

If those are the wheels that are coming off the bus, then they were "slicks" and couldn't have contributed to much anyway. Yes, I know how that sounds, but none of those guys were playing or even pushing for playing time. They might end up being great, but except for numbers, their absence hasn't had anything to do with the dismal performance of the irish thus far.

As far as Jones, it was speculated during the spring that he would jump ship if he didn't end up the starting QB. There was talk about trying to move him to another position, but he wasn't interested, and I can't really blame him.

It's obvious that if he didn't hold the job this year, that things would get even tougher next year when Crist got into town. He could have played as an "athlete" at WR or even RB, but he apparantly wants to be a QB.

I expect Sharpley to stick around, simply b/c he just seems to be content with his role.

Also, one of the earlier transfers from QB (Bragg), returned to ND this year and is back on the team. Some have claimed that Weis convinced him to come back b/c he suspected Jones would transfer.

Even re-treads are better than rolling on the rim but let me ask you your opinion of the "State" of things at ND - what is the problem, or what is the perceived problem?.......serious question Bayou.

So you are saying that Weiss is recruiting players that are not going to contribute anyway? Ya'll should have been PATIENT and kept Ty W. He is doing a pretty good job up their at Washington.

The "perceived" problem is the sam old "Ty didn't recruit" mantra. I'm not complete sold on this one way or the other. It is a fact that TW was horrible at recruiting, but he did leave Weis w/ at least "some" athletes to work w/ the last 2 years.

My take (as objective as I can be)...
Weis has convinced me he can do things with at least a little talent at his disposal, but he has yet to prove to me that he can "coach up" players or adapt to where he has talent.
I also don't think his "pure business" approach to college football games is the answer. W/ 18-21 year old kids, you've got to use their emotions to your advantage, and let the "rah-rah" be part of your game plan. He is trying to treat them too much like proffesional athletes, and does not put enough emphasis into getting his players "pumped up" for big games. That philosophy might work if he can get the steam stacked w/ talent, but the only way to get a player to play above his ability is to let his emotions lift him up.
A prime example of this is the 05 USC game. That was probably the only time I saw one of Weis' teams really emotional about a game (fed by Weis' decision to break out the green jerseys). As a result, they nearly beat a team that should have easily hammered them (see 2004 & 2006).

Bottom line, the general opinion is that the future is bright. I tend to agree.
But, as I've said before, I know alot of people I went to school w/ that used to say the same thing in the 90's at LSU. Hopefully this won't be the same roller coaster ride.
