I notice that several teams in the 70's won National Championships (AP,Coaches) and lost thier bowl games. Does anybody know when they changed the voting time?

I didn’t realize the changes weren’t made at the same time. According to Wikipedia:

    Coaches / UPI : After bowls 1974-current
Associated Press: After bowls 1965 and 1968-current
    FWAA: After bowls 1955-current

Unless I'm mistaken, voting on the NC after bowl games begun after the 1973 fiasco of Alabama getting voted UPI champ, then losing to Notre Dame.

Bama wasn't the first to have this happen (Texas in 1970 lost the Cotton but still "won" the UPI title, for example), but I believe they were the last.
