Coach's Poll Out: LSU Loses 43 Votes to PSU

    http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/rankings?pollId=2&seasonYear=2005&weekNumber=14

LSU lost 18 votes, PSU picked up 25.

No surprise, really, given Friday's game.

This most certainly hurts given the fact that every vote is counted in the current BCS, so vote margins b/w teams do indeed have an impact.

(PS-If there is a similar vote switch in Harris, LSU and PSU will essentially be tied or PSU takes a slight lead.)

what does the "lead" mean towards the BCS? it seems #3 by 100 votes should be the same as #3 by 1 vote huh?

But anyway, a win over UGA steals the votes right back

No... but giving an actual ranking of 1 to 25 provides a nice format for the fans. Look at the rankings. Your position in the top 25 of the coaches poll, for example, is determined by total votes/points.

And for those of you who talk smack about the media and ND... SHUT UP, b/c ND dropped after their game Sat ON THE ROAD and we didnt, when we played a far weaker team AT HOME

Current BCS weighs the # of votes out of the total # cast (don't know the exact formula). The "older" versions did not make a distinction b/w being #3 by 100 or by 1, so this is an improvement, IMO...though it's one that hurts LSU right now.

A *big* win over UGA steals these votes right back and possibly then some, but what has this LSU team done through 11 games to make anyone think it can smash a top 20-caliber team? It'd be great to do, but damn if I don't see how it can happen.

One nice thing about the schedule on Sat. is both Texas and USC play before LSU does, meaning a loss by one really, really turns the attention towards LSU and Atlanta.

That'd be a great scenario as fans who've been conditioned to anticipate a USC-UT Rose Bowl would, with an upset, want to closely check out the sole team playing that evening that has a shot at taking that newly-opened Rose Bowl slot.

With PSU sitting on their couches on Happy Valley, a big LSU win would be huge...and essential.

True, but it was meaningless since ND will still get the BCS at large bid and OSU will not.

If ND wasn't essentially guaranteed a slot, would they have dropped them behind an OSU team with whom they were contending for a slot? Maybe not...
