Article claims that the Pats are going to deal Ro elsewhere:

One of the most intriguing is in New England, where the Patriots are going to have a real interesting decision to be make at quarterback. Tom Brady gets one roster spot (is that going out on a limb or what?) and it would be extremely difficult for New England to cut local legend Doug Flutie, giving him another spot. It also would seem that seventh-round draft pick Matt Cassell, who has been mighty impressive this summer, would get the third. That leaves Brady's backup from last season, former fourth-round pick Rohan Davey, as the odd man out. Davey struggled in New England's preseason game against Cincinnati, but he still is a big talent.

Should New England cut Davey, nobody would be surprised to see Davey's former college coach at LSU, Nick Saban, put in a waiver claim for him, being that Miami would have the second waiver claim. Thus, to avoid having Davey land in Miami and to get something back for him, New England is expected to look into dealing Davey in the next week.

Chicago might be interested, as might Denver, which loved Davey coming out of college.

I don't see Saban picking up Ro. If Saban goes after another qb he will go after one that will be an immediate upgrade. Sorry but thats not Ro. He hasn't proven anything at the NFL level and if he had the goods I think the Pats would be making room for him shomehow, someway. Spare me the NFLE argument becasue imo NFLE isn't much above college. Only a few actually come out of NFLE and really contribute week after week in the NFL.

I think the team in N.O should scoop him up as a backup. Certainly he can play as good as Bauman.

Off the top of my head, these teams need a good backup and Ro would be a big upgrade:

    Atlanta
Buffalo (in division, don't see it happening)
Miami (in division, don't see it happening)
    Kansas City
Seattle (I can't believe Seneca Wallace is still playing...loved the guy at ISU, but wow!)
Carolina (Isn't Weinke still the back up!??!)
NOLA (Bouman played OK....not sure how much of an upgrade, but probably some)

I'd love to see the Saints pick up Ro but I don't know if they will. But I do think Saban is more apt to take Ro and dump Sage Rosenfels. With Gus Ferrotte as the starter and AJ Feely the backup, Ro would be the third guy in Miami. I believe Rosenfels has been in the league longer and is likely set to make more money than Ro (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). The Dolphins will keep Berlin and make him the practice squad QB. If Rosenfels is making more money than Rohan then I think it would be a no brainer to take him and jettison Rosenfels. Rohan's getting bumped out of New England for the guy who was the backup at USC because Ro is set to make more money and is in the last year of his contract, so NE would like to get something for him before he'll be a free agent.

After this year, they will have both been in the league long enough to hit the free agent market. Rosenfels will have minimal value though (as he just signed his f.a. deal, since he came in the league in '01) and he hasn't shown much value. I think it will depend on demand for Davey, especially in light of his good arm, but minimal experience.

So in a nutshell, I don't think cost is much of a factor between Davey and Rosenfels.

Thanks MD! Well if that's the case then I could definitely see Saban dumping Rosenfels for Davey, a guy who's played for him and who he has ties to.

Ths Saints would be smart to pick up Rohan.
First, he would at least be equivilant to the back-up QBs they currently have.
Also, he would increase local interest in the Saints. My favorite years with the Saints were the years we had Dalton Hilliard/Eric Martin and a few other players from LSU. Benson would be smart to bring in as many former LSU players as possible - BUT - we all know he is not smart.

The Saints won't bring in Ro. The first time Brooks throws 2 ints in a quarter and yuks it up on the sidelines, the Whodats will be screaming for Ro. Haslett does not want to have to ANY pressure on his boy.

the Dolfins and the Browns were the 2 teams showing interest after the last exhibition game when reaux reaux didn't play so Saban is definitely interested.
