Very good question. That is one of the problems I have with Butch Davis although I do realize they were on probation. The more I think about all this, the more I don't envy Skip's position. He will have to earn his money this year. Now I will try and think about that question.
Tedford- but a long shot. Petrino- but weak schedule. Rodriguez- many say they underachieved this year but maybe the expectations were too high. Didn't they suck before he got there? And if you can help Tulane to become 12-0 that is saying something.
definitely tedford. has proven he can win with class and in a major (bcs) conference. He is a great offensive mind, most likely the best offensive mind in the country yet probably is a longshot. Has won Pac 10 coach of the year 2 of the last 3 years, won more games in his first 2 years than any 2 years in their history at freaking berkeley. pretty impressive coach to say the least. as stated before, there are some guys who not only know how to win but also win with class. Nor did he whine or politic after getting screwed in the polls like a few others have. "Re-signing Coach Tedford signals my commitment to achieving the kind of excellence in athletics that UC Berkeley already exhibits in academics," AD Birgeneau said. "I could not be more proud of the way in which Coach Tedford, his staff and our entire football team conducted themselves this entire season. It's not just that they won games, but they won games with dignity." "I am 100 percent devoted to this program," Tedford said. "It has always been my goal to build a strong program here at Cal that integrates academics with athletics and I'm very proud of our young men. "We came here three years ago with high expectations. While we have accomplished some of those, we are not finished yet," he said. "Jeff has made so many remarkable contributions to our program, to our community and to our entire university," Barbour said. "We view this commitment as an important step in reaching our current and future goals for the football program, as well as for the athletic department as a whole." Inevitably, the subject of Cal's missing a slot in the Rose Bowl came up, but Tedford said he was "already over it." "I know yesterday was a tough day for all of us," he said. "There's no question there was disappointment but we've had a tremendous year. I've very encouraged by what this group did."
Definitely Mike price at UTEP. I think Chuck Amato does a good job without a ton of depth. The cat from UConn is having a good run. What about the crusierwieght at Boise State?
Always thought Houston Nutt did a solid job in that regard. Kirk Ferentz has done an admirable job, too. Can't forget Coach UnderArmor himself, Ralph Friedgen.
Caddy Attack I agree with whole-heartedly...Price will get his shot soon enough...The guy just plain old wins...Too bad he has the, "It's rolling, baby..." baggage...Because he's a proven commodity... I also agree with Marine Tiger...Miles is a "Saban-Lite" in that he competes in the shadow of Big XII stalwarts and the nefarious OU...and they still compete and excel...He also competes for exposure at a school with a legendary head basketball coach and an outstanding baseball program as well.
Randy Walker did a good job this year at Northwestern....but overall throughout his career i would go with Pat Hill .
It's Mike Price. Unfortunately, it hasn't been that long since his drunken escapade so I don't know. I think Skip might not want to deal with the headache. I wonder if they will even interview him.
