Come on now guys, let vol_fever express his opinion without lashing out at him. I don't think it's totally absurd to say Bama could win the West. I don't think it'll happen, but then that just my opinion.
 Tell that to Jason Allen! He'll be right there for the Thorpe award. Tennessee will have a patchwork secondary but they will be good in 2005, barring major injury to Allen or the starting safeties. Teams will have to throw away from Allen and the safeties and pick on their one weak CB. That's what Florida & LSU will do, I'm sure. But they know this and will play deep on teams to avoid the home run ball.
Again, the pre-season predictions are pretty scattered: http://www.mratings.com/cf/compare.htm Mark Richt has stated that he has a lot of confidence in Shockley. Richt wouldn't say that unless he truly feels that Shockley will do a decent job. The AP and USA Today are in love with any team that plays Notre Dame. Otherwise, most of the other polls put the VOLs where they belong, around 14th.
Well, if Bama is going to win the West, they had better find a serious offense. Can they go out and BUY ONE this late in the season?:yelwink2:
Gonna have to disagree with that... There's a good possability that Richt would say that even if he doesn't completely think it's true. He wants Shockley to feel like he's 100% behind him & give him confidence, but I bet he's personally worried about it. As for Alabama winning the West - could happen. In another thread I posted their advantages over LSU right now. Luck (which they've figured out you can buy) might return to Bama, don't count them out. Auburn should be good again & could win the West, but I think LSU has to be the fairly easy preseason pick for the West. In the East, it's a really tough call between Georgia/Florida/Tennessee this year. Tennessee has got such a road schedule plus some off season turmoil that I don't think they can win it. Georiga obviously has alot of key losses but I think that if they can beat Florida they'll make it to Atlanta. Florida is all question marks to me. I just can't tell how that team is going to be. They could very easily be the SEC East champ if things come together for them & Meyer is half of what he's being hyped to be.
