Here's what I think: Miles: 1. He's not Nick Saban. Other than Bill Belicheck or Vince Lombardi reincarnated, there's not a coach alive that could have appeased some people after Saban left us in the lurch. They were mad and they are still mad. 2. 2003 NC. Anything less than an NC by Miles will be considered a failure. Russell: 1. He's not Matt Mauck. This dovetails with #2 above. Mauck is remembered as a smart, mobile QB who led us to the NC and Russell has yet to do that. 2. He's not Matt Flynn. Flynn has, on occasion, showed a lot of similarities to Mauck, therefore, they figure, he must be as good as Mauck was and Mauck won us an NC. 3. He's Black. Sorry, but that's all some people need to not like him.
SF Mabe way back in your day (being black) would have made a world of difference. I bet most tiger fans could care less what color the qb is (if he wins 11 or 12 games a year. As for me being black makes no difference. I just wish he would be a little more consistant. ok......a lot more consistant. Have a nice day SF
Which mean she doesnt make smart decisions. :nope: This isnt my opinion about LSU fans thoughts, but a fact. I bet 90% of the anti Russell friends I know have this reason for his "failures." The correlation of the two, that is.
I'm calling BS on the race thing. We all love Rohan Davey, because he helped lead us out of our wandering in the desert in the 1990's. He is better liked than Josh Booty. Whether you are liked has more to do with winning, looking good while you're winning, and your demeanor in an interview. We haven't seen much of Jamarcus in interiviews, at least over in Houston we don't. If you give back to the community, you are loved for it. I don't see skin color having anything to do with popularity today, for the vast majority of LSU fans, or any fans for that matter. Maybe there's still a problem in Breaux Bridge.
I didn't imply that it applied to everybody. But, if you think racism is a thing of the past, you're not paying attention. And, Rohan had the same detractors for that same reason.
From the posts here, I tend to think there's more to the race issue than most would recognize or admit. It might not be overt racism, but the constant yapping for Flynn and willful ignoring of all that JR has done seems odd. As for Miles, I think there are a lot of reasons. Before yesterday, he wasn't too hot in big games. He's made some decisions that make him look foolish. And before yesterday, just about anything he said made him sound goofy. Hopefully a lot changed after yesterday, but I doubt it.
Very true. Some folks (thankfully) have a short memory. Same for Herb Tyler, the same QB that led us to victory over #1 Florida.
I can attest to racism being part of the anti-Russell crowd. One of the LSU "fans" sitting near me last night repeatedly referred to Russell as the "dumb f'ing nigger QB." I told the guy he was a worthless human. As to the thread topic, I have no idea what people have against Miles or Russell. Both have represented the university extremely well.
