With reguard to the NFL, why do NFL teams mess around with collegiate coaches during the season??? I know they don't all belong to the same union or anything like that, but you would think that it would be common professional practice to NOT interfere with another team's coach, be it college or pro, before they are finished with their season. This whole thing pisses me off. Not just for the obvious (them wanting to take Saban), but the fact that the Dolphins held no reguard for our players, fans, nor the recruits that we are currently in contact with, and jumped in this upsets me. What difference does it make if Miami spoke to Saban AFTER our season was COMPLETELY over??? It's not like the Dolphins are going anywhere once the regular season is done, so why now? If it were up to me, and I had any pull with the NCAA, I would put in place guidelines for contacting college coaches for possitions in the NFL. From the start of fall practice till the week AFTER signing day, no NFL team should be able to contact collegiate coaches. Furthermore, no college or university should be able to contact another coach from within the NCAA until after any bowl game where your prospective coach would be participating in is over. What got me to really start venting about this is that come LSU's first Capital One Bowl press conference, the media hounds, who would just as soon chew their own arms off to get a knee-jerk-reaction article, will certainly pepper our players about Saban's situation. Quite frankly, it's not fair to those kids! I have a bad feeling that should Saban choose to leave for Miami, the media circus will bring all kinds of clowns begging our players to talk about Saban. This bowl game is about LSU and Iowa and should remain as such. But you know it won't. Some butt-hole out there will make his entire line of questions about anything but LSU and Iowa. ...and it could have all been prevented had the Dolphins had a little more professional respect for LSU and waited to contact Saban until after the bowl game. Got It?
This is a two way street I'm afraid to say. Saban is under no obligation to take offers or be interviewed before the final game. A pro team would do it because they just don't care. The performance of the college team is not their business. It IS the business of the college coach. Therefor, I'm afraid we would need to ask Nick why he doesn't at the VERY LEAST instruct his agent to defer all potential job negotiations until after the bowl game. You MUST assume that any such negotiation is going to be made public despite your best efforts to keep it a secret. If the team's performance suffers because of all of this attention, Nick has no one to blame but himself.
Good points. I guess I'm still caught up in the whole "Saban-can-do-no-wrong....unless-he-leaves-us" phase.
If the Miami contacts were to be delayed until after the bowl game, wouldn't that leave LSU much less time to find a new coach and salvage the recruiting season if Saban were to leave? Wouldn't you'd rather know it sooner than later? ________ Zombie fund dicussion
That's why I said "....From the start of fall practice till the week AFTER signing day, no NFL team should be able to contact collegiate coaches. " That way it doesn't hurt recruiting, and you have more time to find a head coach. Ultimately, I hope to not have that problem because I hope Crawfish is right, and Saban is staying with us! :geaux:
Sorry I misread your post earlier. However in that scenario , it may not hurt recruiting, but will hurt the recruits as they got screwed. I would feel bad for the recruits since they signed often for the reason of wanting to play under the particular coach. Well, I guess that's life. ________ European Cooking
