I was playing NCAA 2005 the other day and, I noticed that LSU's rival game is with Tulane. I know the two teams used to play every year but lately, no games have been scheduled. Why not? The fans definatly turn out for this game and it would be an easy warm up game for LSU early in the season.
SEC expansion was the reason. The Arkansas game replaced it, "the boot" was thrown in to add more of a rivalry feeling. The :lsug:/Tulane baseball rivalry has taken on more meaning since then.
For the same reason that Donald Trump doesn't shop at Kmart, we don't have too. Playing Toolame every year gives credibility to a team and program that deserves none. If Toolame wants another in state rival again maybe they could set up a home and away series with Southern.
I heard from Skip, while tailgating for the Ole Miss game, that we won't play Tulane yearly anymore because they want a "home-and-home" and quite frankly, the game(s) between the two teams make more money in BR (no surprise there). Can't blame Tulame for asking for a home and home because outside of games vs USM, they don't draw crap. A home game vs LSU would pack the dome--albeit in purple and gold but Tulame wouldn't care--they would make the majority of the money when it would be majority LSU fans.
The city better look like putting aside some extra cash, because should the Saints leave, there's NO way that Tulane would ever fill that Dome for a football game. In fact, if I were Tulane, I would play at least a few games each season in Tad Gormley. At least it would look like they draw big crowds!
