Why isn't anyone talking about fiscal responsibility?

I haven't heard about it in the campaign, and its one of the reasons the country is in bad shape. The budget deficit is huge, increased 80% in 8 years. Nearly doubled the deficit it took us 230 years to run to 5 trillion, now pushing 10 trillion.

A war will always punch a hole in the budget.

    Simple, really.

Bush abandoned conservative values, but the GOP doesn't want to highlight that part of their recent record.

And the dems are notoriously big spenders who would prefer a nanny state - but can't raise taxes, because they can't get elected that way.

    So, mum's the word.

Oh, and if you talk about federal fiscal discipline, how can you not point out the ludicrous fiscal irresponsibility in the private sector that is at the heart of most of our financial problems?

The budgetary deficit for 2008 is estimated to be $240 billion. Any deficit is too much for my taste. Manatory spending is $1.788 trillion. Discretionary spending is $1.114 trillion. Estimated receipts will be $2.66 trillion. The funding for the war or terrorism is not included in the national budget because they are appropriations. You may be thinking about the national debt, but if you are, your figure is wrong there too. The national debt is expected to be a whopping $9 trillion.

I was just saying that the debt has been doubled under Republican control.

True...Bush did little to correct the issue. For that I fault the man...but what we are experiencing right now was set in motion well before Bush got in the White House.
