I am wondering if this season, with all that is going on, will be too tough for us to overcome. I don't want to come across negativly, but these are some things that have me worried: 1. Mental toll that Hurrican Katrina will have on the team. 2. It is reported that JaMarcus Russell has up to 20 people in his apartment and that he has had little sleep. (Although above all I am proud as hell of him). How many other team mates are housing people? Hopefully everbody is, but my point is that this will eventually take a toll on them. 3. N.Texas game post-poned (which it should have been), but this was our warm-up game, and it has been said that it takes about 2 games for teams to gel. That means we will start the year off with 2 ranked teams and no warm-up game. Again, I am very proud of our team and our city for helping out, as we should, just wondering how bad it will affect us. I know that football is secondary to this devastation, but it helps to take my mind off of it, if only for a few minutes. Thanks Everybody!:helmet:
Agree with the concerns. It will make things a bit tougher. That said, I think the team may overcome them. It is not a given that the season is down the tube, IMO. Missing your warmup and starting with ASU after they played a game will be hard. Game can go either way, but with character, we can win the game if played in Tiger Stadium. The crowd will realize the players need their help, BIGTIME. Crowd and the band will pull together for the team. Over the years, the upsets have been the high points of being a Tiger fan. The team has won when nobody gave them a chance, like 66 Cotton Bowl against #2 Arkansas. This team will need more character than a normal year, but it is possible! Geaux Tigers!
How long till we can play in Tiger Stadium???? We may be playing more road games than expected. :bncry:
The answer is NO. Things are tough and difficult but I believe it will give the Tigers something to rally around. :yelwink2:
This might be way off base but with a tough minded coach like Saban, I think we could have gotten through it. I don't know what Miles is like.
The tiger football team will have to overcome alot of challenges that normally they wouldn't have to. If they can get past the Arizona st. game which I hope they play at tiger stadium then their isn't anything they can't overcome.
In the AUburn GT game last night, There was a Defensive Lineman, last name Henderson. He was still waiting to hear from his sister and uncle in New Orleans to know the were ok. During the first half of the game he played kinda so-so. The ESPN put the word out and gave a number for his family to call to let him know they were ok. At halftime he got the call. Such a sense of relief that he played an awesome second half, was all over the field. This is the difference it made in one guy. We have a whole team of these stories. The point of this is, I think once everyone on LSU's team feels that since of relief, everything will be ok. this week the city is going to begin to clear out and we will see things getting more and more back to normal in our area. Come Saturday night we should have a sideline full of athletes with huge chips on their shoulders, and a stadium full of fans that have had an extra week of game preperations. If I'm Arizona State, I would be looking for every excuse in the world not to play this game, because it is gonna screw up their little high.
I think the team this team wants to get back on the feild really bad. I bet they want to get the season under way. Get back to normal*. They are not representing just LSU this year, they're representing the whole entire state. They'll make us proud too.
Quick answer? Yes, it will be too tough to overcome. I hope I'm wrong, because another magical season like the one in 2003 would provide a boost to the spirits of so many who need it. Speaking solely in a football sense, if they get past Tennessee undefeated, then there's hope, but right now I wouldn't be shocked to see even an 7-3 or 6-4 season (I'm assuming here the N Tx game is not rescheduled).
