Listening to these guys on ESPN(I know, they are idiots right?) it sounds like there is some push for a +1 system and not a traditional playoff. I would think the Big 12 commissioner and the college presidents probably have a great deal to say about that but what is everyone else's thoughts? Some of the ESPN guys were saying that they like the current system because it causes controversy, and gives them something to talk about. Is it more important to fans to have a definitive winner? Will it take another split title this year, for them to make a change? Curious to hear what everyone else thinks.
Good question......I'm glad I'm not the only one confused. The last I heard was there'd be a playoff type scenario with the top 4 teams. The two winners would play in a +1 NC Game. Not sure what year it would begin though.
I was watching the show College Football Live and they did a poll on the same question you are asking. If I'm not mistaken the majority (+80%) said they would rather have an 8 team playoff rather than a +1 or the BCS system in place now. I am with the 8 team playoff. It would actually show who the real top 4 teams are. I think a problem with this would be that most conferences, including ours, would have to eliminate the Conference Championship game to include extra games on a schedule. Another problem I would see is the fact that it would cause all these teams in the NCAA to broaden their schedule lengths to accommodate the playoff. Or on the other hand there would only be only conference games and no Out-of conference to schedule. I sure am for a playoff cause I can't stand it when ESPN and all other networks talk about the 'shared' title in 2003! ...what say you?
One of the reasons they wont go with a playoff system now is because they say the season would be too long. Personally I think it's a sorry excuse, but I doubt they would want to start the season earlier for the same reason. A better option would be to cut out some of the time between championship matches and bowl games.
Next year? Not possible. The current contract lasts until 2011 or 2012 I think. The +1 would not happen until then.
That is THE best description of what it would do. :thumb: I would be much more comfortable with a #5 team not get a shot isn't as bad as a #3 team.
