    Who is on board yet?

    I personally love it.

I do a lot with windows and the new X Box style UI is perfect for my family. You can configure their layout -- APPS to fit exactly what they use most.

For people like me, you can easily switch between this new style and the traditional "get deep" style if you need.

The performance is great along with some new security enhancements.

    Very nice OS by Microsoft.

I'll upgrade when I get a new computer. I never upgrade an OS on an existing computer.

Honestly I'm not sure why they made such a large move. It makes more sense on a touch screen but a desktop?

    I upgraded the first week.
I think it is great and it boots up fast. At first I hated it but once I learned how to navigate and some of my familiar actions I really like it.
Still has some holes where it jumps between metro and desktop and it is really designed for a tablet so on a desktop has some getting used to.

But love how fast it is.

    I agree.

From the family perspective, I can setup my wife's desktop very nicely. The family has a much easier time navigating their most favorite programs/apps.

In all, I think the quick reference to apps, the speed, and the added security were all positives. Not to mention I got it for only 40$..

When ms does anything not terribly destructive some see it as a plus. Next thing someone will say internet explorer is relevant. Wait, you're using IE, right?

I think the major problem with MS in the past was lack of user knowledge.

Back when vista came out, they would put it on $500 machines. Which in turn equaled a terrible experience.

On the flip side, you can't touch an Apple for less than 1k.

But sadly, your point is the truth of things.

Same here. I will usually wait until my hard drives are overflowing with porn and stolen music and movies, then buy a new drive, install the new os on that, then move the old boot drive into service for porn storage.

A guy demo'd it for me at Sam's yesterday. It was on a touchscreen desktop. The only place in my house I could imagine using that would be in my kitchen. A mouse just seems more efficient. Has anyone figured out why we need it?

It is fast and I've had no freezes or other glitches. I could not get used to the new appearance though. I have it setup with some aftermarket apps that lets it look exactly like Windows 7. I'm a happy camper now.
