I would be terribly pissed off if my state lawmakers were "hiding out" from their jobs to avoid a vote. That's embarassing.
roll your eyes all you want, you know this is true. I guess this is what we have to look forward to. Corporate America buying elections, which is what this all boils down to. This reminds me of the crap that happened in Texas a few years ago with Alberto Gonzales and redistricting. Republicans are doing whatever they can, whenever they can, however they can to use shady tactics to stay in power. It's all about money, it's all about power.
That's really short sited... The Democrats did the same thing with re-districting in the early 90's in Texas. Pot, I do believe you are calling the Kettle black. Both sides do this when they are in power and the redistricting happens after the census.
i agree with that to an extent. i support labor unions in the sense that i support the rights of parties in the free market to try to manipulate costs, meaning i support the labor unions freedom to attempt to collude to control labor prices. but i also support the rights of the businesses to fire them for being a part of that labor union. its all part of the market. i only oppose when the government sides with one side or the other. most of the time the government allows labor unions to collude but not businesses, and that is wrong. the government shouldnt care who fires who or for why. people like lasalle just blindly take the side of labor for no thoughtful reason. there is no reason to take sides. one party wants something, the other party wants something else. it between them to decide how much the other is worth to them, or to move on deal with someones else. if the people are not getting paid enough, work somewhere else. if the employees ask for to much, and someone will work for cheaper, tell them to go to hell and fire them. none of our business really. we should never say "so and so is underpaid! its a travesty". we should just tell that person to find a better job. if they cant find a better job, then perhaps they were not underpaid.
The unions already agreed to the cuts in benefits. This is about the governor trying to destroy unions. It's about taking away collective barganing. If a union doesn't have that, they are dead. And why is this wonderful, white knight, only concerned about the budget, pure souled, republican not going after firefighters and police unions? Could it be because they generally vote republican, and teachers and state workers generally don't? It amazes me how some on here kiss the ass of the ultra rich CEO's but hate unions. Unions are made up of hard working middle class folks. People on here have a lot more in common with union memebers than rich CEO's If limiting the compensation of the Wall Street dicks that got us in this mess is un-american and socialist, then why is it ok to take away a union's right to bargain? Isn't that part of capitalism too?
Under the Governor's proposal, workers would retain the right to collectively bargain over wages. The benefit/pension packages are bankrupting the state. Walker and the legislature were elected to stop the bleeding and restore fiscal sanity. It's not unique to Wisconsin. The insanity has to stop.
I presently work in civil service, and while I can't stand it, and doubt I will retire a state employee I would love to be given the chance to move away from the pension. While the pension is a great benefit, I don't want to rely on the fiscal responsibility of politicians after I retire. I would much prefer the state provide a match on contributions to the deferred compensation plan and not offer the pension. It would be a much cheaper option.
Run like the wind. I worked for the State for 8 years. One day I realized I could look at a chart and pretty much know what my salary would be 10 years down the road. Civil Service for many means show up and get a check. What you do while you're at work means little.
