Soemtimes fans of sports teams are purely bandwagoneers. Every school in college football has them. Some may even say that LSU has its fair share. Well, after reading multiple Florida message forums in the past few days, Florida blows away ALL bandwagon fans. I realize Zook is basically replacing Florida's football deity but they barely give the guy a chance and have wanted him gone from day one of his first season it seems. Take a look at this gem: http://www.mudlizard.com/swamp/display.pl?page=1=read=511946 Talk about living in the past. When you really think about it, Florida is still a very young team and is loaded with talent. Their future is very bright with the recruits Zook has within that program now. They have lost two games this season, both by the smallest of margins. Yet, in the minds of most gator fans the wheels are falling off the wagon and they are all bailing off rapidly. Kinda pathetic. I hope LSU fans never become that spoiled. Sooner or later good ole Nick Saban will head elsewhere and we will hopefully suppport the "new guy" 100%.
Thats just bizarre! Zook will get another year with the kind of recruiting he's done. Coach Saban has been about the only one in the SEC to out recruit him and sooner or later those players will start to perform. They arent that far away now in reality. I seriously doubt Spurrier would ever go back there. Especially with Foley as the AD but even if he were gone, its a stretch to think he would go back to Gainsville. I saw a quote from Spurrier back in the summer and he named a few places that would interest him (Texas, Alabama..god forbid...and of all places North Carolina I think it was) but he clearly said he would not return to Florida. Stranger things have happened though.
I lived in Orlando for 3 years and trust me when I say that alot of Florida, Florida State and Miami fans are bandwagon. FSU would loose one game and everybody would basically go about their lives as if the season were over. I also saw a lot of people jumping from one team to another (of course they were always jumping to the team with the most wins at the time.) Most of it was between the Gaytors and Criminoles though, I didnt see alot of Cane fans.
I wouldn't be shocked if he went back to Florida, but my guess is he will be coaching Texas next year. Anyone else hear the broadcasters taking up for Mack Brown saying how he'd won 10 games blah blah blah? Well, there isn't much difference in 11-1 or 10-2 and 8-4 and 9-3, if you don't put trophys in the case. I think he's gone unless they somehow work their way back into the NC picture.
I heard them talking on ESPN radio last night saying that Mack had been given word by the athletic dept at Tx that his job was safe even if he lost the game to OU (this of course was before the game was played.) He may have been lied to, who knows. Anyway, the host of the show was making a big deal about it because by Mack saying this, he was sending the message to his players that they could loose the game and be just fine.
Mack Brown is facing a similar problem LSU, and all SEC schools, had when Bryant coached at Bama. We all played second fiddle to Bama. As a result, we fired a pretty good coach and paid dearly for that decision for many, many years! I'm not suggesting Stoops is nearly as good as Bryant, but OU is simply the class of the Big 12 these days. Texas would be foolish to fire Brown, unless they knew for certain Spurrier would take the job.
I've never understood why would you fire a coach because he can't beat <fill in team>. Especially when he beats everyone else. Mack Brown has won 10+ games the past three years and 9+ games the past six and they're going to fire him?? It's not like MB can't beat Baylor or Texas Tech. Nobody is beating OU on a consistant basis.
oh and the UF fans who are posting maybe a little reactionary and over zealous, but they aren't bandwagoners because they're still posting. Just because all fans don't buy into the purple kool-aid cult where you can't say anything bad about your team/coach doesn't make them a bandwagoner.
Thats usually the kiss of death isnt it? Get support from the administration one week, fired the next. Seen that too many times to know the last thing most coaches want is some kind of endorsment from management.
No doubt about that. Everyone can be critical and speak freely about their teams. It only further demonstrates that they are a fan by showing more passion. It's the posts I have been reading that sya stuff like "I am not going to any more games while Zook is coach" and those of similar taste that get them the bandwagon label. Take a look at the gatorcountry.com link at top of page to see some of them.
