Lol, was just having a conversation with my uncle about the WSOP and all he could talk about was Phil Helmuth and how he would love to beat the shit out of him, and then about Phil Ivey and his card cut scandal. Which is pretty interesting
He was accused of cheating at baccarat because he was somehow able to discern which cards are what by looking at the way it was cut from the manufacturer or something like that. Some AC casino says he ripped them off for over 9 million.
That's not cheating. He was using his smarts and knowledge of everything about how cards are made. That is information available to be anybody who would tak the trouble to learn about. It's not tbe same thing as dealing from the bottom of the deck or having marked cards.
So is counting cards but considered cheating. The casinos make their own rules and let you lose til your bank account is empty. start winning and they can refuse to pay you. I remember following this story and heard how it all went down.. Apparently his female partner was key. She is a known shark who had already been banned for edge sorting. She's Chinese and they requested a female dealer who spoke mandarin. They also demanded (Phil ivey is the biggest high roller and get what he requests) the cards from the night before when playing a similar game. These cards when machine cut had a defect - some edges had full diamonds some cut I half. They also requested certain discards be rotated 180 degrees when returned so they could read those edges. Which is ridiculous. Cards shuffled in those auto shufflers never change vertical position hence the request. Anywho he's not gonna get his money and will have to pay his winnings back. But yeah he was a face of full tilt who stole 300 mill from their online base much of which were fans. I'll probably watch, c02, mostly bc I find Norman Chad hilarious.
I got into an argument with a casino manager about whether card cpunting was cheating. Wasn't in the casino. A bar where he would watch his big boobed wife lose money at video poker.
Which is why when the casino tried to sue the card company to force them to pay it, the Judge said no, because the dealer and casino allowed it. Last I read the casino didn’t have to pay Ivey, but that he was going to counter sue.
