I know this article will probably get a great many of you steamed but take solace in the obvious bias of the writer(David Lewin), and that nearly everybody disagrees with him. It's pretty over the top, but I figured either Brady Quinn ghost wrote it, or maybe BitterD, so it's worth a laugh. Nothing like professional jealousy. I guess the homers will never cease in their delusions.:rofl:

"David Lewin is a freshman student and quarterback at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota. He has yet to accumulate enough starts or complete a high enough percentage of his passes to be considered worthy of a first day pick, although he did toss a 70-yard touchdown against St. Olaf.

Yeah I did read it earlier. The funny thing is he didnt know Russell was competing for the job because of 2 shoulder surgeries and a wrist surgery in the offseason.

I think what this kid doesn't know about Russell, you could almost squeeze in to the Grand Canyon.

My eyes were starting to cross. That cat had way too much time on his hands to go into that much detail. You think it was biased or what? Krikey!

As for the comments, I had to stop reading them at @ #50. What garbage. These people's minds have been poisoned.

Oh well, truth is we'll all know who's better over the course of a few years. For me, I don't see Quinn handling the hits. We know JM can take it.

This guy makes it sound like J. Russell should not even be drafted much less be in the running for the #1 pick in the draft. I was almost laughing out loud at his final summerizing of "how bad" Russell is. He did bring back some bad memories for me in what was possibly my most angry and frustrated moment ever as a lsu fan via the last drive of the LSU-Auburn game.

I think what he fails to realize or believe with his obvious bias is that like we who have watched him game in and game out is he has grown as a player immensly since even the beggining of this year. To me he is like a whole nother QB from the auburn game at the start of the year to the incredible confidence he showed in games like TENN ole miss with the winning drives and then the poise he showed against Arkansas and Notre Dame.

He loved rubbing in the fact that the "qb battle" was so fierce for his career but like someone already pointed out alot of that had to do with the injuries he had at the sec champ and the great athletes he had behind him, who would have been starting at pretty much any other school as fresh or soph as flynn proved by stepping in and absolutlely blasting Mia. in his first collegiate start ever. Plus we all knew coming into this year there was no real QB controversy but more of a way for LES to push Russell as hard as he could going into 06 season.

So yea it will be fun to see J. Russell prove people wrong at the next level, especially this BQ homer.

After reading about 40 homer comments in a row on the replies to the article some guy wrote in a great one in defense of Russell that I thought would be worth posting. Keep in mind this dude doesn't claim to be Mr. LSU and still said he had some worries about Russell so he's no bias machine::

However, I will say a few things in defense of Russell.
One, he didn’t suddenly pop onto the scene with the Sugar Bowl. Sure, Sportscenter may not have blown any loads over him while they were hyping up Troy Smith and talking about how there should be an Ohio State v. Michigan rematch, but if you really followed college football well, you’d heard about Russell long before January 3rd, 2007. Moreover, while playing well against Notre Dame, the Sugar Bowl was actually one of his worst games of the season.
Second, yes Russell narrowly won the starting job at LSU. However, LSU is simply loaded with talent, so that isn’t much of a criticism. That would be about like criticizing Frank Gore for barely beating out Willis McGahee at Miami. Russell barely beat out Flynn, but Flynn is a very good QB in his own right, and Perrilloux was considered by many to be the nation’s top QB recruit a couple of years ago. It’s not like he was barely beating out some fifth string walk-on from Opelousas.
Third, despite the talent around him, Russell had no running game to help him, for the most part, in 2006. LSU didn’t have a solid back until very late in the year, and the line struggled to run block. While they could run the ball fairly well against the crappy teams, they couldn’t do anything against the better teams. In the aforementioned Auburn game, the LSU backs combined to rush for 28 yards off of 19 carries. In the loss to Florida, they could muster only 71 yards rushing off of 21 carries. In both games, Russell was actually the team’s second leading rusher. On the year, Devin Hester, the team’s starting fullback, was actually LSU’s leading rusher in terms of carries, yards, and touchdowns. That just goes to show how bad their run game was. Still, even with no support from the running game, Russell still led LSU as the top offense in the SEC, and arguably in the nation.
All told, as I stated earlier, Russell has some flaws, no doubt about that. But, the truth is everyone has some flaws, and there is never such a thing as a perfect draft choice. At bottom though, Russell, due to being a once-in-a-generation physical specimen, has a tremendous upside, and while there is risk that goes along with that, you just can’t turn down that much potential. That’s why he’ll go most likely in the top three, if not first overall.
