Traditionally Dominant Teams in CFB: 1. Alabama 2. Notre Dame 3. Nebraska 4. Oklahoma 5. Southern Cal 6. Michigan 7. Texas 8. BYU 9. Ohio State 10. Penn State Up and Comer Dominant Teams 1. Florida State 2. Miami 3. Louisiana State 4. Georgia 5. Virginia 6. Virginia Tech 7. Florida 8. Iowa 9. Cal 10. Auburn Any arguments, what are you lists? Better TE ????
Michigan should appear on the first list, and Nebraska should be put before OU on any talk of traditionally dominant programs, as Alabama should be placed above Notre Dame. Alabama is known throughout college football as traditionally dominant, and they've achieved that traditional dominance without having a national television contract and the ability to play a national schedule. Also, Penn State & Miami are jokes in the Top 10 of traditionally powerful programs. Penn State was a joke because of its schedule and its independent nature for years (don't know why this chainged). They went undefeated two years in a row, and didn't receive any national championship talk at one point under Paterno, and rightfully so. They played William & Mary College for 9 games of the year, then two games like Michigan, Notre Dame, or Ohio State, or some other Midwestern Power. They got to beat up on punk teams week in & week out, only to have to get up for two games all year. They were rightfully ignored throughout college football history, and Paterno was discounted for most of his coaching career, and rightfully so. Miami was a doormat until Howard Schnellenberger & Jimmie Johnson. They are a power as of the recent past, but before the mid 80's, they didn't just stink, they almost disbanded the program. Miami & PSU are both pretenders on your list...and Nebraska was a stalwart for years, even before Osbourne took over.
No way! Go check out both of the schools football history. Osbourne was like 4-12 against Switzer. Ever heard of a guy named Bud Wilkinson and 47 straight? The Sooners have been a stalwart before and after Switzer. Nebraska is now going through what the Sooners went through in the 90s.
Excuse me...... According to College Football Data Warehouse they've got LSU #9 thank you. http://cfbdatawarehouse.com/data/rankings/all_time_team_rankings.php
I didn't mean by winning percentage or all of that... I meant most dominant as in championships... undefeated seasons...etc...
BYU? Take them off any list other than a team that won a NC with a very, very weak schedule. Here is a better top 10 all time: 1 Notre Dame 2 Alabama 3 Michigan 4 Oklahoma 5 Nebraska 6 USC 7 Ohio St 8 Tennessee 9 Penn St 10 Texas LSU would be 11th on my list. Teams on the move up 1 FSU 2 Miami 3 USC 4 Georgia 5 Auburn 6 LSU 7 Oklahoma 8 Florida 9 California 10 Texas Teams on the way down; 1 Notre Dame 2 Penn St 3 Nebraska all the above have lost their normal recruiting base. 4 Washington 5 Texas A&M should rebound soon. 6 Arkansas not a big enough recruiting base, need to recruit Texas more. 7 Syracuse only thing that could save them is being in the Big East. 8 FSU The ACC is a lot harder to win now Bobby.
How can FSU be #1 on the move up and #8 on the move down? I also don't think that Cal will still be on the move up when Tedford eventually leaves.
Easy in the last 20 years they have done the best in the nation, but in the last 4 they haven't kept up with the numbers they had put up before. From 1987-2000 FSU was 151-21-1 for a 87.5% winning percent, but since then FSU is 35-15 for a 70.0% winning percent meaing FSU went from avg 10.8 wins and 1.5 losses to 8.7 wins and 3.75 losses a year and that is a very big change.
