according to PFT, miami could be facing a sizeable fine if it doesn't invite a token minority to interview: FINS COULD FACE $2 MILLION FINE A league source with knowledge of the attitudes and beliefs of one or more members of the NFL's diversity committee tells us that the next team that violates the league's minority hiring guidelines will be fined not $500,000, but $2 million. Also, the fine possibly will count against the offending team's salary cap. When Lions CEO Matt Millen was fined $200,000 for failing to interview a black candidate in the search that resulted in the hiring of Steve Mariucci, the NFL promised that the next violator would be violated to the tune of $500,000 "or more." The "or more," apparently, is "a lot more." Eddie Jones, outgoing president of the Dolphins, has said that the team will comply with the policy in its search for a new head coach. But with the Fins hot on the trial of LSU's Nick Saban and poised to make him an offer, it's likely too late to persuade other minority candidates to interview. As a result, and as ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reported on Friday, the Fins are "hitting the pause button" in their pursuit of Saban. Whether the double-clutch spooks Saban away from the table remains to be seen; apparently, however, the powers-that-be in Miami finally have figured out that, as to Saban, the cat's out of the bag -- and is about to take a dump on the poinsettia. This whole NFL minority policy is a travesty, and a sham and a mockery. It's a.....traveshamockery!! I miss that guy :grin:
Nick wants to coach in the Bowl game, he has said so. This pause plays into his wishes . . . if he were to decide to leave, of course. If he were to announce he was leaving today, Skip would likely appoint an interim coach to try to save the recruting class and tell Nick to box up his stuff and vacate his office ASAP because a new guy is coming in quickly. IF Nick were to leave, of course.
I am the only one who thinks Saban would be a darned fool to take the Miami job. The fins have to be in the worse situation in the league. (Marino thing, Ricky, Boston, Players refusing to show up for games, ect.). I think Saban could do much better.
I do not think he would be a fool. He would have the opportunity to rebuild the entire organization. Also, Miami ownership is VERY patient with their coaches and tend to give them a long time to try to succeed. He can do better though, yes. He can stay at LSU. :tigerhead
Probably not, but I don't think that there are that many Mexicans, Chinese, Indians, etc currently involved with the NFL that would be qualified to be an NFL head coach.
