Hey, I'm just recapping what I read that someone posted on here about the spring game. But I would have to agree that he is a good athelete and that if he's not on the field at QB, they might consider letting him run out for some passes. I mean hey, he proved that he could flat out run past the defensive line and secondary in the Cotton Bowl. I think he can make things happen when he has the ball on the run. I feel like calling coach the coaching staff on this one. But we all know that they would probably tell me to let them decide who plays where........

    What do you think???

Mauck hits Randall on a screen and Randall goes the distance.

    Like I said before.

IT's TIME TO POUR SOME SUGAR ON LSU!!!!!!!!!!

I think we have a pretty good group of WRs already. There's Clayton, Hendersen, Green, Brazell, Joseph.....plus the incoming freshman trio. We are very deep at the WR position.

Maybe he can play some safety. That job looks open to any player smart enough to play it.

    Tiger "Slash"?

Well, I've always said, "Let the best athlete(s) play." If Marcus Randal is indeed one of the best athletes on the team (which, I would think he was), then you have to find a spot for him.

Even though Clayton and Henderson will be the go-to guys in the passing game, we need another big-play threat. Can't say I have much of an opinion on Brazell (good nor bad) to say he's an adequate contributor.

I agree that Randall probably wouldn't see the field as a WR. The position is deep and talented this year. Lots of young talent but probably more than Randall will ever have (at WR). Safety seems like a possibility. Then again, maybe QB at Southern? Don't get me wrong, I think he was unfairly criticized last year and I believe he can win in the SEC with talented players around him, but we should have better options now with a healthy Mauck, Ricard, the JC guy (senior now), Clausen (why is he still here?), Flynn, and Russell (the future?).

In All Fairness, Randall Either Plays At QB Or.....

I don't know of a position he can play. LSU has RB's, WR's, and I
doubt his ability to adjust to playing in the secondary going into his Jr. year. Randall has been anoffensive player (QB) his entire athletic career. In my opinion, Randall can do one of 3 things (1) improve & remain at QB & compete for playing time, (2) accept his role on the team as a backup QB for his last 2 seasons and play when the opportunity comes, or (3) transfer to a D1AA school where he will have 2 seasons to play and compete for a starting position. Sometimes that's just the way things shake out.

He's got a big decision to make, especially with the highly touted QBs coming in this freshman class.

How is Southern's QB situation anyhow? Is that job solidly taken?

We need experience at QB. If Mauck were to go down again, I am not sure if JaMarcus would be ready. Clausen might be able to serve as a good backup and even JaMarcus MIGHT, but I would rather some comfort at the backup QB position and some exerience...

Unfortunately Randall is the only QB with any experience besides Mauck. Randall at his best is a pretty decent QB but he is too inconsistent. At his worst he is a liability rather than an assest. If none of the young QBs develope quickly he will be the backup for at least most of the season so we can only hope that he has learned from his mistakes of last season.

"Wow! this guy's gonna throw for 3,000 yards at LSU in 1 season!"

Anyone here think that about Rohan after Auburn - 1999?

Too harsh. Randall is our backup QB for now. Let's see what the Freshman Really bring to the table: Talent, Maturity Level, Attitude etc. Completions: Randall 48.1 % Mauck: 48.5%. TD/INT Ratio: Mauck: 9-2 Randall: 7-5 Keep in mind, Mauck played in 2 SEC games, and VT game. Randall was at the helm for 6 SEC games & the Cotton. I hope we do implement some sort of "Backup plays a series", ala Hodson/Guidry.

I have never liked the "Hodson/Guidry backup plays a series" approach. That was Mike Archer's approach and he took the program into a downhill spiral from his first year to his last after inheriting the talent that Bill Arnsparger left him with. Going into the 2003 season Mauck is the starter and Randall is the backup
Mauck will never be a first round NFL draft choice but I can see him developing into the kind of QB who can do whatever it takes to win and who won't make mistakes that will lose games, sort of like lasts years QB for Ohio State or Barker when Alabama won their last NC. Randall is a better athlete than Mauck, is faster and has a stronger arm but is not as good with his on field decisions. In the first half of the Cotton Bowl the announcers were comparing Randall to Joe Montana. In the second half he sucked. If Randall has learned enough to take his game to a consistent level as good as his best efforts he should be the starter. That is a decision that Nick Saban will make in August.
Clausen has shown nothing in his limited playing time and we have no idea how Ricard, Flynn or Russell will develope
