The last 10 days, I mean. It started last Tuesday, when I went to urgent care for what I thought was a stomach virus. By Wednesday night, it was so bad that I went to the ER early Thursday morning. Had a CT scan and they admitted me for a blocked bowel, probably from scar tissue from a previous surgery, but they weren’t ruling out Crohn’s disease they started me on a new painkiller called Dilaudid, which is supposed to be better than morphine.. It is. A spell of nausea and anxiety before it kicked in every time though. . They also put a tube down my nose to my stomach. If you’ve never had this done…. I urge you to run away, screaming. It’s a small, smooth, flexible, medical tube, but it feels like you have a Lego lodged in your throat. And if you bump or catch it on anything it literally pulls you around from inside the skull. Two days of this, and they released me Saturday morning. Was OK for a couple of days, but took a bad turn Wednesday night and went back to ER screaming 10 out of 10 to anyone that would listen. 10 out of 10 on the pain management scale. Another CT scan, followed by an ultrasound, and they readmitted me with a bad gallbladder. Scheduling the surgery turned out to be a problem and I didn’t have it until Saturday morning. Sometime Friday, the massive sludge that was in my gut shifted position, and in about five minutes I was back to 10 out of 10 pain. To their credit, the hospital did a good job managing the pain med in a way that they got it under control. Had the surgery Saturday morning (the doctor said my gallbladder was gnarly and had a couple of stones). What they didn’t tell me was that they were going to stick the tube back in. I swear, this thing should not be allowed for use without a formal declaration of war. By Friday night, I was literally having hallucinations, the pain was so bad. they finally took the tube out Saturday morning, and now I am just doing pain management, trying to get used to solid food again and getting back on my feet. Should go home tomorrow morning. About 3 weeks to recover and then we’ll figure out what’s going on in the bowel, but sounds like it’s almost definitely Crohns. My wife has been incredible through all this.
So sorry to hear what you have been thru. Sounds like something you would not even wish on your enemies. I think you live in the Houston ares (Katy?). I live in Houston also (Med Center area) so I know they have great # of well trained specialists in the city. One of the benefits of putting up with the hassles of big city life. Hope you have a speedy & full recovery.
Oh my. You’ve had a tough time of it. Any little issues I have pale in comparison. God bless you and your family in your recovery process. Geaux Tigahs!
@mctiger Get well soon baw. Sounds like you are still not outta the woods so us sinners will be prayin for ya. On a sidenote about Crohns, its often accompanied later by colon cancer. Hopefully they are checking/monitoring for that. Watched that take an aquaintance in his mid twentys, years ago.
Hate to break it to you but that isn't new. Anywhoo! Hope you get to feeling better brother, I hate hearing about folks in pain. That sucks!
