Well, Dabo took over mid-season in 2008. He was then hired as full time HC in the offseason over several other more desirable candidates, and that didn't sit well w/most Clemson alum, who felt like he did not have the requisite experience/qualifications to be a HC since he was an assistant who was coaching WRs (he was never an OC, DC, or HC). He then promptly went 9-5, and 6-6. Living in ACC country, I can tell you the uproar was loud. The only saving grace was recruiting, and offensive firepower. The AD had patience and vision, and in his 3rd season, efforts began to pay off, and they have had 10+ win seasons ever since, including the 2016 NC.
Oeaux continues to be lauded by most of the fan base. People make comments like he is in over his head, he sucked at Ole Miss, etc, etc. In over his head? He has coached under Jimmy Johnson, Pete Carroll, Les, etc, etc. He's been in coaching for 34 years now. He has the experience. He has now coached 21 games as HC at LSU and is 15-6. That doesn't sound like he is in over his head. Mike Archer was in over his head, but I don't think Oeaux is, personally. His Ole Miss record was over a decade ago. I'm much better at what I do than I was a decade ago.
To be clear, Oeaux wasn't the hire most of us wanted, me included. It is what it is, he's here for now, and I hope he succeeds b/c then LSU succeeds. I like quite a few things he has done so far. If the results don't pan out, we move on. But, give the man a chance like Dabo was given. If he doesn't, all of you can say "I told you so". If he does, many of you will need to eat crow.
