Man, you guys are touching some nerves pointing out that USC has only won a single BCS Title in a row. Didn't you know that you can't point out that the emperor (USC) has no clothes. Mr. Hayes seems to ignore the fact that the BCS wasn't around in 1958. The BCS was suppose to end all this debate. I am so confused.:dis: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10590289/ To LSU fans: a trip. To Shutyville. Yeah, we know Southern California didn't win the BCS national title after the 2003 season. The Trojans did, however, win the Associated Press national championship, which is why they're working on three in a row. It's the same AP national title LSU won in 1958. So if you're willing to give up your '58 title, I'm sure SC can part with its '03. Capisce?
Wrong!! The AP and UPI were the standard in 1958. They were the accepted method of crowning a champion. However side note - Decks - you most likely did not read the article posted last week -link below http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/news?slug=dw-usc3peat122205&prov=yhoo&type=lgns Now - however - the accepted contracted method of selecting the national champion (contracted by both the Pac-10 and SEC anolg with the other majors) is the winner of the BCS, that is the team with the crystal football. And there are no ties. They only give one out a year. Oh, and guess what, Nick and gang are the only team that won the Crystal Football in 2003. They also were top team in 9 of 11 polls. Now if anyone should be pushing for a playoff system it would be you. 13-0 I believe. But that grueling out of conference schedule of UL Monroe, La Tech and The Citidel just killed you. Capisce?
What brought this trash out? Did you read the part above the link? That was mine. The part below the link, that is Matt Hayes from MSNBC. Could I have been saying that the media once again is fashioning opinion to meet their needs, rather than basing their articles on facts? Revisionist journalism is showing up at MSNBC? That the media is attacking LSU because it is pointing out the truth? What did I say that led to the conclusion that I was in favor of Matt Hayes' position?
After re-reading your original post I should not have added as much spice to my comments. It is sort of the case of shooting the messenger. I guess down here I don't get much "playoff system" support and I lash out sporadically. Pretty tired of the "three peat" language also. So - I will try not to shoot the messenger in the future. Panini grills are still pretty good!!
Well I was around in 1958, and there was NO discussion about anyone else being the national champs in 1958 except LSU. That would indicate they were consensus champions, as well as I remember, no controversy. So, whoever was deciding the nat. champ in 1958, everyone thought it was LSU. Therefore, if AP wasn't valid, whoever was valid in 1958 said it was LSU, cause there was no dissention. Let this dipweed cite the other aggreived party that thought they were the national champs that year. And as said before, they changed the rules later and eveyone agreed to abide by the BCS, except the infantile trojans at usc. What whiney babies. We won the national championship by the prevailing rules in 1958, and we won under a different set of accepted rules in 2003, but we won by the accepted rules in both cases, something usc cannot say about 2003. Just whiney babies. I really hope Texas kicks their butts in the Rose Bowl. Bunch of little lord fauntleroy rich kid egocentric whiney babies.
NOTE TO ALLEGED SPORTS MEDIA ELITES: There was no BCS system in 1958. Repeat after me: "There was no BCS system in 1958". In 2003 there was absolutely no AP National Championship for USC to "win." Repeat: "In 2003, there was absolutely no AP National Championship for USC to 'win' " You are all a bunch of USC homers. Repeat: "We are all a bunch of USC homers." There now, doesn't if feel good to be honest and tell the truth ? Alleged Sports Medial Elites: "Not really" I thought so ! I'm no Mack Brown or Texas fan but I hope they destroy USC in the game and put an end to this 3-peat BS !
The real funny thing was the AP was a part of the BCS, so in turn they had two votes, and they split with USC in the AP poll and LSU in the BCS. So in reality they (USC) didn't even get a spilt title in 2003, they got a split AP title, and thats not enough to claim..............
