If we give up a lot of points or yardage, we will fall out of #1. Heard a lot of talk this week about how poor the defense was last week. Can’t have that 2 weeks in a row.
The boot is a made up ugly trophy for a non existent rivalry that the media tried to create. To show how little the players care one season a short time back LSU win to reclaim the boot. The players all left the field and left the boot on the field. Finally they sent an equipment manager out to retrieve it.
Actually, I think it was the SEC office that tried to "manufacture" a rivalry. This was before A&M and Missouri joned the conference. Arkansas and LSU were the only teams that did not have a "natural" rivalry. (Maybe USC and Kentucky also?) So the boot came into existence. With the admission of A&M into the conference, LSU now has that "natural" rivalry. That is why we no longer play Arkansas on Thanksgiving Friday. But, it also shows how you can make a rivalry. It has to come from history and loathing.
That would be correct. Gotta show out today. If Penn State can maintain being competitive in the OSU game, then I think it's 50/50 that we stay #1.
You know, I’m up here in NC, and was not a grad, so I am sure that there are millions of details/facts that I’m unaware of. Having said that, “The Boot” always seemed contrived, and I had no clue where the big rivalry came from. Glad to know it is as BS as I thought!
