Paging Larry Foster to the Idiot Ward, Larry Foster to the Idiot Ward. For real though, I thought that the last few years have been fantastic for us after the mess that was the DiNardo regime's crime spree. These two, sadly, need to be made an example of for numerous reasons, the least of which is the showing the recruits' mommas we expect greatness on and off the field. No Meyer Wiener BS here, ladies and gents. I think these two are off to AA or another school.
We're not Florida, not West Virginia, and certainly not Miami. We DONT accept this kind of behaviour from our student athletes, because here at LSU they're not just athletes, they're role models. I say cut them off the team after investigating the situation, and instead of redshirting the 3 OTs coming this fall, redshirt only 2. Case solved.
We haven't heard their story, yet. They don't always turn out as first reports have it. If it's some sort of dispute between aquaintances, it could be no big deal, a misunderstanding, dropped charges, etc. Three game suspension, maybe. But if it's an overt burglary of a stranger, they are finished here.
Certainly what you suggest may be the case. Too often, though, I get the feeling what truly would constitute a crime for any other student becomes a "misunderstanding", "disputed event", or what have you after everything plays out with the participants involved. The victims, often students themselves, really don't want to be in a position where their charges result in a player's removal. On the flip side, however, a minor episode can get out of hand fast. Students are involved in bar fights every week. When an athlete joins the fray, it might make ESPN.
I hate to hear this kind of stuff. But a few guys wash out every year before they have used up their eligibility due to a change of heart, grade problems, and sometimes unfortunately illness or other personal issues. If this is as ugly as it looks at least Les and staff will have more breathing room to offer schollies for next year. We were looking at likely 18 recruits in this next class and seemed to be holding offers close to the vest. Things may loosen up a bit on that front. Still, I wish these kids had a better moral compass.
Red's right. There's always another side to a story. However, the article says they broke into an apartment which I interpret as forcible entry although the door may have been unlocked. No matter, it's still burglary if they entered with the intent to commit a theft, locked or not. The victim notified police her backpack was stolen. Doesn't sound to me like they had permission. They reportedly made unauthorized credit card charges. Again, doesn't sound like they had permission. I hope Red is really, really right. That is, it may not be what it seems. But it ain't looking good. And I don't think you can afford to give felons a second chance in this situation. On second thought, it could indeed be worse. They could've called someone a nappy-headed ho.
IMO, Giddens is definitely gone. It appears that he was the one that used the stolen credit cards & thus got more serious charges. Thomas still has some deniability about whether he knew what he was involved in or not.
