Wow, North Carolina just beat rice 6 to 1. They play again tomorrow with the winner to the championship game. The Anteaters have to beat OSU twice to get their. Who whoda thought OSU would be the only team left without a loss. Goes to show you never know at Omaha. I guess I'm pulling for the Anteaters also. They are running on pure vapors at this point. What a story if they beat OSU twice to get in the NC game. And what a story if OSU makes it back to defend its title. Gotta love Omaha.
Was in Omaha yesterday for the games and it is great to see how the city has gotten behind the Anteaters. Kind of like when LSU makes the CWS, all of a sudden playing at Rosenblatt is like having home field advantage. Omaha loves the Tigers and I just hope that in the next year or two LSU will be back. The only bad thing about 'Eater Fever' is that I even saw Pres Bush on TV saying Go Anteaters. I think he may have jinxed them.
Irvine with a 5 year old program was in a bracket with 3 schools that own a national championship(s). The Anteaters outlasted 2 of them and performed well on the biggest stage in college baseball. The national visibility will be great for their program. Folks who follow college baseball know who they are now. Should generate some interest in their coach as well. Rice. How do you score 29 runs in 2 games, then get held to one ? Answer is that good pitching will do that. Doesn't matter to me very much who advances but I will pull for winner of the game this evening to win it all. I like Oregon State but don't want them to win consecutive titles. I liked that the TV folks kept saying the last back to back champ was LSU. As it should be.
Okay, it's a rematch, OSU and North Carolina, I don't think anyone predicted this. It's only the 2nd Championship rematch from the previous year in the history of the tournament. I think the 2 of 3 game format favors North Carolina. But I just can't bet against OSU, they have magic. Can't wait to watch this series and which teams pitching holds up the best. There's always a surprise on the pitching side. Anyone know why OSU was not ranked? Even rivals does not have them in their final poll. USA Today had them #25. Talk about no respect for the defending champion. This will be fun to watch. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/baseball/more/06/21/cws.rice.unc.ap/index.html
They had a disappointing regular season and were one of the last at larget bids. They were given a #3 regional seed.
