Dec 19--Les Miles and his staff have extended scholarship offers to an elite group of juniors who have already proven themselves worthy of a chance to play for the Tigers. Below are the standout juniors who have received an LSU offer. (LINK)

    OFFENSE

    QB Jake Heaps--Sammamish, WA

--Rivals 250: Heaps, who has already been named to the U.S. Army All-America Game for next year, has established himself as one of the top passers in the Pacific Northwest. Through the regular season, Heaps completed 61 percent of his passes for 1,583 yards and 22 touchdowns. His early offer list includes almost every Pac 10 team and other powers like BYU and Notre Dame.

--FVSports 100 (#50): Contenders: BYU, California, Notre Dame, Stanford, UCLA, Washington, Washington State

--Scout 100 (5-star): Led Skyline to a 14-0 season, as well as a Washington 3A State Championship as a sophomore in 2007. Threw for 3,103 yards and 31 touchdowns while earning 1st Team All-League quarterback and 3A AP All-State honors. BYU, California, LSU, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Washington

    QB Nick Montana--Westlake Village, CA

--NOTES: Son of Joe Montana. According to MaxPreps.com, he led his team to a 12-0 record, going 109 for 201 (54.2%), 2,077 yards, 30 TDs, 6 INTs. Gets QB training from Steve Clarkson who says Nick is "identical to his dad, if you saw him play, you’d swear it’s Joe."

    RB Lache Seastrunk--Temple, TX

--Rivals 250: FIVE-STAR CANDIDATE. Seastrunk is as athletic a running back as you will find. He has elite top-end speed and gets to his top gear quickly. He is an aggressive runner who has the potential to turn any carry into a home run. He has the ability to catch out of the backfield and can take a hit. Seastrunk plays with a lot of passion and emotion and is a high-effort back.

--FVSports 100 (#3): Probably the most electric HS tailback since Reggie Bush. Definition of a home-run hitter, Seastrunk's suddenness is unmatched. Has tremendous initial acceleration, change of direction, and that final gear that very few humans have. Personal best of 10.37 100m, should get that down into the 10.2s before he finishes high school. Compliments his speed with good lateral vision, and is pretty slippery on first contact. Long-jumping 20-9 in middle school, Seastrunk has tremendous leg strength, agility, and body control. Has shown flashes coming out of the backfield and should develop into a dangerous receiving threat. Not a workhorse back, Seastrunk will have to adjust from the Wing-T and show consistency running between the C gaps. Probably a better fit in a zone blocking scheme going forward. Special talent who has one of the highest ceilings of any player in this class. Contenders: LSU, Texas, USC

--Scout 100 (4-star): Speed and moves and acceleration are what make Lache a truly special player. He does a great job of finding the opening then bursting through the seam and finishing the play. His ability to accelerate so that the defensive player's angle of pursuit is off is truly one of his strengths. In full stride he is hitting three yards a stride and chews up the yardage. LSU, Michigan, Oklahoma, Texas, UCLA, USC, Texas A&M

    FB Maurice Hagens--Tampa, FL

--NOTES: Talented fullback prospect who ran for over 1,400 yards as a sophomore in 2007 (according to Scout.com biography)

    OG Chad Lindsay--The Woodlands, TX

--NOTES: Father is Duff Lindsay who played offensive lineman for Mississippi State (1977-1980). As a sophomore, the younger Lindsay was named Texas 15-5A first-team all-district and Texas Region II all-underclassmen team. As a junior, he was named 5A Texas Football 1st Team All-State and 2008 5A Texas Football All Junior Team. According to Rivals, he has offers from Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Oklahoma, Tennessee, etc.

    TE C.J. Fiedorowicz--Johnsburg, IL

--Rivals 250: Arizona, Duke, Indiana, Iowa, LSU, Notre Dame, Wisconsin and others can’t be wrong. Fiedorowicz has been a household name in Illinois since he started in football, basketball and baseball. With his size and playmaking ability, he should be one of the top tight ends in the nation for next season. He could also be recruited in basketball.

--FVSports 100 (#37): Contenders: Notre Dame, Illinois, Iowa, LSU, USC

--Scout 100 (4-star): Arizona, Duke, Indiana, Iowa, LSU, Notre Dame, Wisconsin

    TE Travis Dickson--Ocean Springs, MS

--Rivals 250: Dickson is the brother of LSU tight end Richard Dickson and he has shown even more potential and athleticism than his brother at a similar stage in his career. Dickson is a well-built 6-3, 235 pounds and he runs well with the versatility to play either tight end or fullback in college.

    WR Jeremy Richardson--Springville, AL

--Rivals 250: Richardson is a dynamic wide receiver with great size and good speed. He can get behind a secondary or take a short pass the distance. Richardson is also an excellent kick returner.

--FVSports 100 (#33): Contenders: Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Georgia, Tennessee

    DEFENSE

    DT Denzel McCoy--Duluth, GA

--Rivals 250: McCoy is a beast in the middle and a force against the run. He gets penetration and is a load to move and occupy for an o-lineman. He shows good quickness for a big man.

    DE Jackson Jeffcoat--Plano, TX

--Rivals 250: At a sleek and athletic 6-5, 230 pounds, Jeffcoat has great length and uses it to his advantage. He uses his hands as well as any defensive prospect in the country. In the offseason he is a top basketball player and his athleticism on the hardwood comes through on the football field.

--FVSports 100 (#1): Nation's top junior prospect. Son of former ASU Sun Devils and Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Jim Jeffcoat, Jackson is blessed with his father's physical attributes and has an advanced feel for the game. As a sophomore, Jeffcoat was named All-State 5A, something that's extremely rare given the priority to upperclassmen in the state's highest classification. Has been clocked at 4.50 flat and even touched under 4.5. Shuts down passing lanes with his combination of height and plus wingspan. Disciplined and well-coached, uses his hands like an NFL-vet. Overall technique is on the same level as Devon Kennard. Doesn't appear to have Kennard's explosion off the ball, but Jeffcoat actually plays in a read-and-react defense. One could argue Jeffcoat's frame and straight-line speed gives him a higher ceiling than Kennard. Could have been the #2 prospect in the 2009 class after [QB Matt] Barkley. Also the top basketball player in the Dallas Metroplex right now, Jeffcoat may pull a Julius Peppers and go dual-sport in college. Contenders: Texas, Oklahoma, USC

--Scout 100 (5-star): Georgia, LSU, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, USC

    DE Craig Sanders--Ariton, AL

--Rivals 250: Sanders is a terrific looking defensive prospect that plays 100 mph. He’s got very good athletic ability, good size and speed and plays with a great aggression.

--FVSports 100 (#63): Contenders: Alabama, Florida, Auburn, Florida State, LSU

--Scout 100 (4-star): Sanders recorded 79 tackles, 19 sacks, five forced fumbles and three blocked kicks in 2007. He caught nine passes for 200 yards and five touchdowns as a tight end. He added 48 carries for 422 yards and two touchdowns. He was named All-State. Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Vanderbilt

    DE Reggie Wilson--Haltom City, TX

--Rivals 250: FIVE-STAR CANDIDATE: Wilson has an explosive first step and can really turn the corner and run the loop in his pass rush. He uses his hands effectively and has great feet. He does a good job of keeping blockers off his legs and he doesn’t often hit the ground. As a tackler, he is physical and pursues the ball aggressively. Wilson is a high-effort, two-way player.

--FVSports 100 (#11): Violent player with a lot of potential. Physically, Wilson has a great speed/strength ratio for his build, and a pretty good motor. Possesses that rare explosion off the ball that garners offers from everyone. Understands angles and how to move on the field despite just picking up football a few years ago. His style of play makes it very difficult for offensive linemen to cut him, and he does a pretty good job of disengaging. Has plus closing speed, makes it look like the quarterback is wearing a magnet on film. Hasn't played football for very long, so he's still raw in terms of his techniques and consistency. Wilson has one of the higher ceilings of anyone in this class. Contenders: Texas, Oklahoma, LSU

--Scout 100 (4-star): Florida State, LSU, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech

    LB/DE Justin Maclin--Memphis, TN

--Rivals 250: Maclin is a physically impressive outside linebacker/defensive end hybrid that has great size (6-4/215) and speed (4.5 forty). His performances at Memphis and LSU camps this summer earned him verbal offers and his athleticism and upside make him a potentially unblockable edge rusher.

--FVSports 100 (#11): Maclin is also under the radar in terms of hype, but won't be for very long. Physically, Maclin is one of the most impressive players in this class. With a strong basketball background, Maclin is fast, long, and versatile. A developing nightmare off the edge, Maclin also has the athleticism to turn his hips and drop back into coverage. Length and vertical takes away a throwing lane. Still raw and like many basketball players, needs to work on his first step and short-area explosion. Maclin is a wiry athlete who has upside as both a Sam backer in a 4-3 and edge rusher in a 3-4. Not nearly as polished as a Jamel Turner, but probably has the highest ceiling of any linebacker in this class, reminiscent of Rosevelt Colvin in college. Contenders: LSU, Tennessee, Texas Tech, USC

    LB/S Alec Ogletree--Newnan, GA

--Rivals 250: Ogletree is a rangy safety prospect that excels in run support. He covers a lot of ground and he finds the ball in a hurry. Ogletree tries to deliver the big blow or cleans up with authority. Because of his size he could grow into a linebacker.

--FVSports 100 (#17): Physically imposing athlete, the question is, is he done growing? Probably, and considering Ogletree has really good instincts for his age, it may allow him to stay at safety despite his size. If so, value goes even higher. Definition of a big hitter, but also has plus ball skills. Will be able to turn and run with most wideouts, and has the height to match up with tight ends. Sees the field well and makes quick decisions. Also excels on special teams, has blocked several kicks this year alone. Needs to pick and choose when to go for the kill shot, as it leads to missed tackles. Will have a short learning curve at the next level, should play immediately and become a feared player. Contenders: Georgia, Miami, Auburn, Clemson, Florida State, LSU

--Scout 100 (4-star): Miami (Fl), Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, LSU

    CB Adrian White--DeSoto, TX

--Rivals 250: White has seen his stock rise after a summer during which he blew up the camp circuits. As an underclassman he was named the MVP of Fort Worth Nike Camp and he had similarly impressive performances at multiple college camps. His early offer sheet reflects his offseason work.

--FVSports 100 (#61): Contenders: Texas, Oklahoma, LSU, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Stanford, Texas A&M

--Scout 100 (4-star): LSU, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Stanford, Texas, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt

Islstl, Bhelm, CParso, and whoever else is nuts about following LSU recruiting:

Regarding that above list of offers that we have given to superstars that just finished up their junior year in high school, is that pretty much how it is every year?

Is that how we normally do it--offer 15 of the best guys from around the country... and then take it from there (based on how interested they seem in us)... or are we getting more aggressive when it comes to national recruiting?

Yea, it is pretty typical. There are only a handful of players that we've evaluated enough to know this early that they are LSU-caliber. Those players get early offers.

These guys definitely appear to be headed to the same school, which sounds good for LSU.

    It's so early.

    He'll get it soon enough.

Watch for a lot to happen early in February as LSU has gotten out of the gates pretty good these past couple of years.
