Let's look at the chain of events for a moment. Jimmy Graham who, it has to be said, has earned top dollar at his position, says he in fact deserves to be paid as a top wide receiver, not a top tight end. I believe we're talking about a 4 million dollar difference. The Saints, knowing they have to clear some cap room to meet JG's price tag, begin dumping long-time Saints who are making good salaries but can't perform as they had a few years ago. Graham goes to the web and responds that he is "shocked and disappointed" at the moves the Saints are making? Does he not realize they are doing this so they can afford to pay him? Am I wrong to be "shocked and disappointed" with Graham's attitude?
Could not agree more. WTF does he expect? Sign a contract like the one you did as a rookie and we can keep these core players. It's his fault that these moves have to be made, so STFU with your 'shock and disappointment'.
You know it really pisses me off when these prima Donnas do this shit. Robbie Cano just pulled the same shit with the mariners. Signs an A rod type contract then wonders where his help is. Dumb ass should have stayed with the bombers.
Generally not a fan of what passes for journalism at bleacherreport.com, but here's a very positive spin on what the Saints are doing this off-season. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...ns-saints-viable-contenders-for-years-to-come
Pierre Thomas signs a 2-year extension to his contract. This is what Loomis has done with Brees, Will Smith, Jabari Greer, Roman Harper, etc. Basically it spreads the guaranteed money out over two more years and reduces the cap hit for this year. The Saints will probably kick him free before the end of this contract which will accelerate the cap figure when they do. No doubt the number will be more manageable then and under a higher salary cap. The benefit for the player is more guaranteed money overall on the contract. I expect they will do the same for any or all of Bunkley, Brees, Evans, Grubbs, Colston and Lewis.
Strief expected to re-sign with Saints now. That's great news, as he was very solid at right tackle last year.
That and the monster contract Drew Brees held out for. Drew got the money but as we are seeing now, the Saint's are giving up a whole lot for him and for Graham. That money unfortunately won't buy him another ring. And he saw a lot more hits last year as the left over money isn't buying him a whole lot of protection any more either.
Saints are taking a look at Sidney Rice according to Ian Rappaport. Jets are also showing interest and SEA wants him back too.
