You're being facetious again. Of the 9 players that have been indefinitely suspended by coach Saban, none have ever seen the light again of the grand crimson tunnel.

The hood mentality, coupled with the entitled "I'm the shit" attitude coming out of HS, is extremely difficult to break. Not even millions in the bank can cure it. See Michael Vick.

It's more than the hood mentality...it's a culture of death. It's a culture that places the value of a human being, not on spiritual things like loyalty, dignity, love, etc. but on objective things like money and the "bottom line".

Those Alabama players didn't see a fellow student and a fan. They didn't see that victim as somebody's son or boyfriend, or good person; they saw him as an object akin to an ATM machine.

And it's not just thugs that contribute to and perpetuate that culture of death.

It's health insurance companies that drop someone because they made an expensive claim
It's black youths calling each other by the "N word"
It's a manager who lays off an older, loyal employee because he's more expensive to employ than a young hottie.
It's the person living on the Northshore who has the attitude that the criminals should go ahead and kill each other.
It's the co-worker who attacks others with malicious gossip in the workplace because they're different or a rival.

The list goes on and on because, in each case life is cheapened...life is based on something else besides dignity.

Every time a thug kills a thug, think about this. You could be correct that it's bums killing bums, but each one of those bums has a younger brother; a sister; a mom an uncle or aunt that is grieving because they lost someone who is dear to them.

Each time the culture of death is perpetuated, a little bit of us should die inside. If not, something's wrong.

Didn't Kirkpatrick fail a drug test in which the results conveniently weren't available until a few days after the BCS NC?

That deer antler spray must be driving those boys mad.

Seriously, I can understand the occassional "boys will be boys" college tomfoolery, but going on a robbery spree in which they physically beat their victims is simply beyond comprehension for young men in their position. That is crackhead behavior, not something you'd expect out of any college studeny, particularly one that has a free ride.

Well, we have had players beat up students in a bar fight, snatch purses, and break into dorm rooms to steal things from other students. We all live in glass stadiums. It's just a matter of time before another one of ours does something heinous.

Nice list! Where are the "Saban's teams are well-disciplined and never get in trouble." posters now? This doesn't even count allowing a suspended WR to play because you're losing to Monroe or to defend a player who took a cheap defenseless hit on a QB.

Saban is a great coach and Alabama has a great program. Even so, the idea that Alabama does everything right under Saban is a crock. They're no angels. Anybody want to buy some textbooks? :)

I think this is true enough. The hood is much too narrow to begin to describe what is happening in all aspects of society. It is a culture thing and each person is shaping and molding his environment as he or she chooses, over time and circumstances. While some folks are inundated with the wrong choices more so then others in growing up, society as a whole, has created way too many opportunities to choose poorly, throughout our life.

The devaluation of human life is not a new phenomenon, rather a cycle. We just happen to be on the downhill side.
Edit: plus hotties gotta work too.
