The one case that Michigan and WVU may have against us is that they have much easier schedules this upcoming season. Michigan has pretty smooth sailing until the last 2 weeks of the season (at Wisconsin, vs Ohio State), and WVU has a really easy schedule with only 3 possible tough games (at USF, at Rutgers, vs Louisville). On the other hand, LSU has one of the toughest SOS in the country, which may lead some pollsters to rank us slightly lower. Now that being said, I believe that we are a much better team than Michigan or WVU, but we will need to prove it on the field against a much tougher schedule than either of them have.
Well, given the fact that over a half-dozen other polls have LSU at #2, it doesn't look so great, either. Whatever. Barring some major injury or injuries to key people once practice starts in August, LSU will come out of the gates at #2.
Michigan will be the odd man out if USC, LSU and UMich finish the season undefeated. A top 3 LSU that goes wire to wire in what some have called the strongest SEC possibly ever is a lock to play for the MNC. LSU would pass Michigan before the conference title game, likely after closing out the Va Tech-Fla-Aubie triple play. They're already "at the top", so sliding past Mich isn't too much of a stretch. Now, should LSU falter...I'd like Michigan's chances of staying in the top 2 if they finish undefeated. The non-conf is more than respectable w/ Oregon and ND, and they play Wisky and OSU in conference. Any other undefeated SEC team would not "jump" an undefeated, #2 Michigan. Just too much ground to make up, IMO.
