Looks like La is going to be deeeeeep this year. As long as Les can produce a successful season, we should have no problem with top 10 next year.
I don't konw these O-lineman may make the grade Anthony Boudreaux OL, 6'8" 360. Played a lot of DE in high scholl put projects as an OL in college. Already committed. Doug Stroud, OL, 6'7", 330, Evangel. Stroud is a big-time prospect, but having to play down in class 1-A will not expose him as a national recruit. Jamaal Thompson, OL, 6'6", 305, East ST John. Has great quickness for a player his size and could be a dominating offensive lineman in college. Larry Brewer, OL, 6'7", 310, Slidell. Brewer has good work habits and has a chance to become a very special player. These are 4 really big dudes instate next year, plus we will see more kids coming up as they start to focus on next year's class more. The 2-4 guys are from DD's site.
Now that the smoke has cleared from the 2005 class, it looks like LSU signing Ryan Perrilloux could have some nice ancillary benefits. I hear that ESJ has a few monsters on the team and a couple who may be D-1 ready now...
Re: I don't konw these O-lineman may make the grade "Doug Stroud's dad is a graduate of Ole Miss, and his second cousin is John Stroud, one of the all-time great basketball players at Ole Miss He said that he likes LSU, but not as much as some of his friends like LSU." After I read this on Dandy's site, I'd be really surprised if Stroud signed with LSU. However, we will Juco Boudreaux and at least 3 or 4 more OL this year.
We lost one OL this year (Wilkerson). We gained one OL this year (Black). We are fine. We are not desperately low on OL or anything. We will have 15 OL on scholarship this year just like last year. We will have 4 seniors, 5 juniors, 1 sophomore, 3 redshirt freshmen, and 2 freshmen who could redshirt. We will lose 4 OL next year. We already have one (Boudreaux). We only need 3 more to have the same number that we always have. As far as how these guys were rated by Rivals when they came out of high school, we will have 8 4-star, 5 3-star, and 2 2-star OL. A team probably only needs about 8 OL who can really play right? They try to keep the same 5 OL on the field the entire time the game is in doubt, and you will probably have at most 3 injuries at a time. In 2005, our top 8 will probably be: Whitworth, Niswanger, Livings, Johnson, McGill, Arnold, Johnson, and Miller. In 2006 we will have: 1. Brian Johnson, 2. Will Arnold, 3. Herman Johnson, 4. Ryan Miller, 5. Brett Helms, 6. Peter Dyakowski, 7. Doug Planchard, 8. Paris Hodges, 9. Garett Wibel, 10. Max Holmes, 11. Ciron Black, 12. Anthony Boudreaux, and (13-15) whoever else we sign for the 2006 class competing for our top 8 spots. I for one think we are fine.
FightinTiger I have to disagree with you on the exposure thing. The NFL will find the best players regardless how much exposure they get on TV. Previous drafts indicate where a player played doesn't mean to much. Noiw, competing for championships is a totally different thing and he would have a much better shot at LSU.
My concern is that while we are losing 4 OL, they are Starters. Whitworth, Niswanger, Livings & McGill. Out of the 5 Juniors we have, only Brian Johnson has played a lot. I don't know if that will change, but I don't see any of the Juniors becoming the next Whitworth. I think we have some great players but they are Sophmores & Redshirt Freshman. We need sign Boudreaux, who will be here 2 years, and 3 more Freshman who have huge potential. 2003 - Signed 2 OL - Only 1 is still with the team 2004 - Signed 4 OL (Counting Max Holmes in this class) 2005 - Signed 1 OL In 3 years we have only signed 6 OL..
