Well, he's not in a three-point stance, obviously, but it appears that his leading foot is about the same point as the tight ends' trailing feet. So they are all standing in the legal zone.
There is a bit of an illusion going on with that photo, b/c of the camera angle being well above field level and not parallel with the LOS. Looking at Doucet at the bottom, it appears that his head is slightly behind his front foot (maybe even above the heel). However, using the line drawn across that foot, it looks like his head is nearly a full yard behind. That's b/c of the camera angle. So, in reality, his head is closer to that line than the photo makes it appear. I still think LSU probably caught a break, but it's closer than this photo makes it seem. Maybe even close enough to justify the nearside linesman letting it go.
Line Judge on AU side of the field threw the flag... Line Judge on LSU side of the field overruled the play because he verified that Doucet was on the LOS. The review was for the TD. Well that is how I see it through my P&G glasses... :thumb:
The spot was a good one for LSU, no question. If Tubby challenges, the ball is placed 2 feet back and we make the 1st down on the next play. If the challenge is lost (and stranger things have happened on re-review) Tubby loses a timeout. Risk/reward. Tubby was aware, he just made a snap decision based upon the overall picture.
The illusion is caused if you don't imagine the line as actually painted on the ground. It is only a valid reference for the position of things on the ground. Otherwise, our left tackle is in a three pt stance and has his head over his foot and th guy guarding doucet has his head a yard in front of his feet.
All I have to say is... You guys are WAY too good at this computer stuff! If I ever become an attorney I will hire any of you to do my computer presentations!!!
Bad news Deceks... The refs did not review the penalty. The Cox replay has additional audio from the ref. "first of all, there was no foul on the play. There were seven men on the line of scrimmage. The result of the play is a touchdown. It's confirmed." Really takes away from my enjoyment, just a little.
