It had alot to do with Auburn fans going over to their boards and putting on the kneepads, telling those fans how great USC was and how terrible LSU was as a team and as fans. Kinda "a friend of my enemy is my enemy thing", all in addition to the polls and USC-luv fest stuff in the media. (PS-Sooners looked awesome yesterday. A mobile Jason White makes a big difference, eh? I saw that great play he made to hit Clayton on that bomb early in the first to set up the first TD. Impressive.)
Three comments: 1. Nobody ever won a National Championship by beating the #4 team, especially while the #2 and #1 teams were playing elsewhere in the National Championship Game! 2. Southern Cal finished #1 in one of the two subjective polls and one of the computer rankings. LSU finished #1 in the other subjective poll and in 7 of the 9 objective computer rankings. 7 to 2--easy call. 3. The west coast media bias towards the Los Angeles team over teams from the backwoods of Norman or Baton Rouge is apparent to anybody that bothers to look. They got the BCS changed this year so their vote counts more! Strength-of schedule has been dropped! Now teams from strong football conferences like the SEC and Big-12 with many top-25 teams, who also play conference championship games, will be at a distinct disadvantage to teams playing a cupcake schedule . . . like Southern Cal.
The only problem I had with OU was that they didn't win their conference championship game. I think the rules should have that in there somewhere. Of course it shouldn't count until all the conferences have a title game. It was a little weird having OU there last year having lost their title game, but then again, USC didn't even have to play one, so they didn't deserve to be there any more than OU. I think the two best teams were there, and especially when you consider that the BCS takes into acount the whole season, and not just how the team played in the final game or two. This is just my two cents. Now give it back. I can't afford to give away two cents.
This is it right here. I live in Los Angeles, and had to deal with this on a day to day basis. Remember, before the regular season ended last year they were counting on the BCS to pull them into the NC. This was back when everyone in LA was fine with the BCS, the rules, and how to determine a NC. When it didn't happen the way they wanted it to, they trashed the system and created their own NC . . . in fact, against ColoSt they added a banner to their empty seats that reads "SC 2003 NC". It's enough to make you sick. Of course this year the papers in LA are making SC out to be unbeatable. But you can surely bet if they lose a game, they will be calling on the BCS to save their asses and "give" them a shot at the NC game. The only team I hate (out here) more than SC is ORE. It was nice to see Indy put an ass whipping on them. 7 turnovers by the Ducks, fans leaving early and booing the team. Classic. I can't stand the Ducks, the only other team in the nation with real classless sour grape type fans. This is the same university that pays YES network to broadcast games in NY to assure they get seen for higher rankings and Heisman considerations.
I kinda agree with that, but, at least OU had was in a championship game. USC didn't have one. It's hard to beat someone as good as you in your own conference once, it's harder than hell to do it twice.
