A&M considering move to SEC

I'm just looking at the way things are starting to shape up. I agree with the Kentuckerbilts, and I suppose that Missouri and Clemson probably fit the bill, though being more formidable in football that they Wildcats or Commodores, they still have yet to win their respective conferences. What makes them think they're going to win the SEC in football any time soon? The same can be said for A & M, as well. Florida State, however, would probably make some noise pretty soon, not to mention that they have a coach who knows the SEC.

And I don't like the idea of adding teams. The SEC is already the best as it is and adding more teams will make it harder and harder for a team to emerge as a national contender.

Plus, none of those new teams had anything to do with what the SEC has already accomplished. They are just jumping on while we're at the top and riding the wave. We have nothing to gain, yet those schools have EVERYTHING to gain. Stick with the schools that have lasted for 70+ years (plus USCe and Arky). It's ruining tradition.

IMO they need 4 supper conferences to compete in a semi final playoff at the end of the year.

    Pac whatever
    Big Whatever
    SEC
ACC ( take teams from the Big East)

Being that we will never see a playoff, this is the best we can hope for!

I think this is the start of the playoff format coming to be. I'm just pissed at the choice of teams.

Does anyone remember the "possible" formula or schedule from prior discussions? I know it was discussed years ago when FSU, Miami, Texas, and Texas A&M were considered and again over the past 1-2 years but what was the projected schedule?

If you play the remaining seven teams in your division...what do you do with your remaining five games?

If you play four OOC games, what do you do with the last game? I personally don't want a "permanent" opponent from the east as it would prevent us from ever playing some teams. We're not going to make the SEC Championship game every year and teams like Kentucky & Vandy may never make it. If there's no rotation the SEC West is almost its own conference.

    Good points.

Not only are you ruining classic southern football tradition, you're ruining what made the SEC great in the first place.

It reminds of when of when a mega conglomerate acquires a successful, fast growing business then changes everything that made it successful. Then they scratch their head and wonder why it failed.

    Exactly.

Do we really want Texas A&M fans chanting "SEC! SEC!" as if they've been in the conference as long as we have, if they win a bowl game? It disgusts me to think that they will in the future.

Missouri and Clemson would be very much like adding Arkansas and South Carolina. Not instant contenders, but . . . they're pretty damn strong today. I'd prefer NC State and Houston.

Well if the SEC is going to make a move to become the first 16 team super conference, I think that it would be foolish to add minor league teams like Mizzou and Clemson or even eATMe. I would hope that they target OU, Texas, and FSU. The fourth spot would be a toss up between eATMe, Miami, and VT. If you want to dominate college football and make ALL of the money, take the big dogs away from other conferences and stockpile the talent. I would even plan to add them one at a time and renegotiate the TV rights each time I added one, but I am just greedy. If the SEC is committed to being the top conference, they should prove it by bringing in the best.
